The North County Trailway is a rather flat, blacktopped, abandoned railway bed that extends for miles in northern Westchester and Putnam. Recommend parking along route 134 where it runs over the trail and then go north. If you want an easy meander take the trail over the reservoir and then turn back. If you want more exercise keep going to Yorktown Heights and snack at the Trailside Cafe. Much of the trail has a high shady canopy.

Nice trail for walking or bike. Solo or family. Fairly flat and paved. We’ve walked this former railway trail many times and always enjoy it.

As a former rail right-of-way, the grade is always gentle. Good for bikes and walkers. Pretend you are the Ol Put chugging through the narrow tunnel of trees.

North County trail probably fits the needs of a lot of people as there are different "legs" of the trail which one could decide to start and finish at. The incline is fairly easy for walkers or bikes. A lot of the trail goes through shady woods, which is nice on a hot day. when we went, parts were under construction. There are a few dangerous intersections, or I would rate the trail even higher. You can park the car at a few different spots. It's definitively worth a try, and I would use it again.

Try to get out walking or biking several times a week, very blessed to have in our area. Was just re blacktopped. No more pot holes!

Always fun riding on this trail that goes on for miles and miles. There are a few rough spots but nothing that is dangerous. It can get busy in spots so you have to be aware and keep your speed in check. You will also cross a number of roads (some never any traffic, some busy) so be careful but many times cars will stop when they see you by the crosswalk

Nice canopy of trees, view from the bridge on croton reservoir are awesome. Trail needs a fresh layer of asphalt to increase the experience.

People really enjoy walking and biking on this trail, through woods and some clearings. There are a few places where you have to cross roads. On busy days the bikes can be a bit intimidating to the walkers ("on your left" they yell as they whizz by). So keep your children to the right of the path as you walk to prevent getting hit.
