I came to the Bearsville Theater for the first time since 2014 and it was so nice to be there again. I had gone to see Lindsey Webster and her band right after Christmas in 2014 at the beginning of her career and it was almost like going full circle.

The theater had just reopened for business from the State of New York rules and we did not have to wear our masks for the show and that was a thrill. You can never take these things for granted.

The band was terrific and it was nice to see how successful that have come in those seven years. It was like almost full circle. The seats were nice and comfortable and the acoustics were very good. It was such a pleasure to be out that evening.

Maybe we will start to see more of this normal.

We attended the jazz brunch last Sunday and had a lovely time. The music was wonderful, not too loud, and the food was wonderful. Friendly staff, and the owner Lizzie was there to greet the customers. A lovely woman!

I have been to a lot of concerts and the Bearsville Theatre is one of the best small venues to see a show. The layout is great - - you can sit at the bar and see the show in the theatre room through the glass behind the bar (which is a sunken bar so the servers do no interfere with your view. The service is always efficient and pleasant. There are some great Eliot Landy photographs taken in the Woodstock are adorning the walls. The talent varies there so you have to keep an eye out for something that interest you.

Bought tickets online for a Grateful Dead cover band on Sat July 31 and received extensive reminders that everyone needs to be fully vaccinated or take a rapid test to enter venue. On arrival not a single staff member asked anyone checking in for any proof of vaccination. Only reason we felt comfortable going to the show was that they seemed to take safety seriously. There was no one there performing rapid test either. Seems all thier emails and reminders on the tickets are purely for show. It seems this establishment doesn't prioritize the health of their customers or staff.
Also during the bands second set a customer came in with a pitbull. Not just into the bar area or the patio area but into the performance area with the large crowd. The pitbull immediately started barking and biting at balloons that the crowd was bouncing around. Staff didn't care. Person with the dog went to the back of the crowd and continued to play with his pitbull. Maybe a crowded loud concert with tons of people dancing and a light show going on isn't the safest place to bring a pitbull. Overall couldn't believe the lack of care or safety on the part of anyone associated with Bearsville Theater. Will not be going back.

I went to a show there and bought tickets in the bar area because the seated part was sold out. Maybe I missed that there is not guaranteed seating, but that luckily worked out because we got bar seats. But we couldn't hear the music from the bar. The venue has no business selling bar tickets to a concert. It was a joke. We left after four songs. I tried to get a credit for a future show planning on buying a seat in the actual concert area, by first emailing the venue. I got no response. I then called and spoke to someone who first blamed it on whomever put on the performance, which was ridiculous, and then said they'd speak to the owner/manager and get right back to me, which no one did. Clearly they could care less. I do not recommend this place!

El Esposo and I took the trek from NEW Woodstock (located near Syracuse, which is about a 4 hr. drive) to see Carolyn Wonderland. I read the reviews, and based on ticket prices (which were very reasonable), decided that even if it turned out the acoustics were a dud, it would be worth the trip, based on the venue size (small), the chance to spend the day wandering nearby Woodstock, and the fact that we have a place to stay nearby. We were AMAZED. This is by far one of the best venues I've been to.

Whoever designed the acoustics did it with skill. Taking a barn, and remodeling it, they obviously planned well. As we walked in I noted the ceilings (which look "odd"--there's a reason) and realized that the place may have many uses, but is primarily meant for music. There is not a bad seat in the house!

That evening there were 56 seats put out on the floor, with ample room for dancing. We spoke with a number of people around us (all pretty much an over-30 crowd) and the majority were locals. Most came that evening because they go there as a regular Friday night "thing." So it gets thumbs up for "local flavor."

The place is divided between the stage and seating area, and a bar which has a large plates of glass in front of it. People in the bar area can hear the band (via a sound system) but still have conversations. People in the concert area can slip easily into the bar, grab a drink and return to their seats, never having missed a moment of the show. The drinks were reasonably priced, and the selection of offerings quite generous.

One of the best parts of the evening was a surprise appearance of Cindy Cashdollar to play a few songs with Carolyn Wonderland. If you don't know who she is, just Wiki her and know that she's a legend, and a "musician's musician." Cashdollar is a local resident, and by the behavior of Wonderland and Cashdollar on stage, they're friends...

I can't recommend this venue enough. Musicians and music lovers will appreciate the sound quality at the venue, and everything about the place will make your visit worth the trip.

This exceptionally good music venue on the border between Bearsville and Woodstock in upstate New York is worthy of a visit anytime a group of your choice is playing. Prices are reasonable. There is a large mostly unreserved floor area and a small reserved seat balcony. Sometimes there are seats on the floor, sometimes not. Generally great sound system and mix.Crowd is usually laid-back locals with a few tourists.
We have seen Al Kooper, Steve Stills, Richard Thompson, Garth Hudson, Graham Parker, Terry Adams, and more here. We regularly check upcoming bills for a 1.5 hour drive up the NYS Thruway to see shows here. Good bar. No food served, but The Little Bear (excellent Chinese food) and Bear Cafe (more upscale dining) are just a stones throw away. Interior is beautiful wood with a collection of Ellliot Landy photographs on the walls. Outdoor porch overlooks babbling brook.
For music historians, fabled manager Albert Grossman (Peter Paul & Mary, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Paul Butterfield, The Band) started this place with his wife Sally. He is buried in a discreet grave on the property.
Worth the trip.

I've been here for all different types of venues--- movies, music, fundraisers and besides the charm of the surroundings, the Bearsville Theater gets top notch entertainment which appeals to all ages. If you have the opportunity, check it out!
