I was a cook at this Tibetan Monastery, which sits on top of Meads Mountain in the Catskills, in 1999. Since then, I've lived at the foot of that mountain in historic, picturesque Woodstock, NY. Every time I have a guest who's visiting me for...More

If you have never seen a genuine Buddhist temple this is worth the trip. The place is decorated in a very colorful, gilded, ornate and colorful way. This is not a tourist trap but a working place of worship. The main room where the statue...More

Visited the monastery just before going to hike on Overlook Mountain. Beautiful grounds and buildings, and amazing shrine. We joined an ongoing guided tour, really enjoyed it. It was a bit of a surprise to find a piece of Tibet here in Catskills, just 2...More

The tour at this monastery is really awesome. I highly recommend it. The place is beautiful and the lady giving the tour is mesmerizing. I also stayed for the introduction to meditation which is nice for new-comers to meditation. There's also a lovely hiking trail...More

Unfortunately we missed the tour (check times in advance) but the visit was worthwhile nonetheless. When I was trying to figure out the entrance, someone offered to help (he didn't work there) and steered me to the several spots I should see. Started with the...More

Saturday tour of the Monastery was very informative to this novice. Fostered further inquiry and reading. My husband participated in an introductory meditation session that was helpful. Bookshop is extraordinary and staff is very helpful and obviously informed. There is free parking.

Small lovely campus to walk around. There was a teaching in session so the times of entry to the main shrine were restricted. Check the schedule before you go if you want to meditate. Also park in marked areas only, you WILL get ticketed if...More

Sorry, I don't know their schedule. I'd suggest you contact them directly. It seems the timing of some of their events are fluid.

Can't remember but relatively early. The grounds are sort of open, and there is a board on the outside of the bookstore with hours for the temples.
