We read a description of this hike as "moderate." I would call it pretty darn vigorous. It is a very steep ascent the whole time! It took us 1 hour and 40 minutes to climb. We are in pretty good shape, too. On the way down, several people asked us how much further they had to go. We were wondering the same thing as we climbed! The view at the top was beautiful though! But if you want a relaxing hike pick something else.

The path to summit is wide, gravel and predictable. This makes for a dull hike to begin, but the reward is 2 miles up, where the ruins of a hotel wait for you to explore! Another .5 and there is a fire tower as well, offering views of the Catskills and Hudson Valley. During COVID the wide path also made it easy to stay distant. Beware of parking signs. They DID ticket; on a busy Saturday Woodstock is raking in the $.

This rigorous hike offers a great view at the top. The trail is well traveled, so it’s easy to follow. Bring plenty of water and wear comfortable hiking shoes!
