This is a GOOD HIKE. I was definitely sore for 2 days after. You get to see some cool ruins and the fire tower at the top has incredible views. Where good shoes and watch the weather. Have fun!

This is not an easy hike. It is 2.5 miles straight up to the fire tower. We took a lot of breaks on the way up. The path is made of gravel rocks (where the horse carriages used back in the early nineties to go up to the hotel), and so not hard to hike on. Just going up the... More

I happened to find out about this trail accidently. I was looking up the best trails to do in the Catskills, and someone happened to have a link to their experience doing the Overlook mountain trail. Knowing the trail was rated difficult and myself and my fiance are not advanced hikers... we agreed to try it out. It said it... More

My husband, baby, dog, and I hiked to the Overlook summit (about 2.5 miles from the parking lot) and part of the way to Echo Lake (2 miles from main trail). There is only one trail for the first two miles, so there are a lot of people the whole way. It's a wide, gravel path with little tree cover.... More

Used to hike this trail in the 70's as a scout, then with my sons as scouts in the late 80's. Times have changed the trail a bit. they've reopened the ranger tower which was closed in the 80's, the tv towers are a bit annoying, but the view from the overlooks remains a incredible as ever. The ruins of... More

This is a lovely little trail with an incredible pay off at the end with a gorgeous panorama view. If you're interested in making a day of this, I suggest walking up to the carpark from Woodstock town, going up to the mountain top and then down to echo lake before coming back up and back down into Woodstock (just... I've done this hike 5 times now and I would do it another 5 times! It's straight up. Not for the faint of heart. If you're out of shape plan on a 3-4 hour round trip hike. If you're in good shape it takes about 2-2.5 hours round trip. Take lots of breaks and for God's sake bring water! I... More

This 5-mile out-and-back hike has a few very unique features that make it well worth adding to you list. One is an abandoned hotel about 2 miles into the hike. The hotel burned down not once but twice, but a good portion of the stone walls remain. We happened to hike it on a misty day and the ruins were... More

You can't go wrong with a classic. We took the dogs who aren't much for hiking and they loved it. Same with kids or those who aren't in the best shape. A lot of people have issue with the power lines, which I never find obtrusive. If you are a runner, this is an amazing run (I ran uphill with... More
