About
Whiteface may have made its name in winter, it has the highest vertical drop in the east, after all but it does summer pretty well too. The warmer months make Whiteface a natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages, whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or just an afternoon of beautiful views with your family. Take a hike along the Stag Brook Falls trail or Bear Den Mountain, play a round of Disc Golf and check out the area's most exhilarating, challenging Mountain Biking terrain. Or gather the family for an afternoon of taking it all in with a Scenic Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride to the summit of Little Whiteface. Drive the Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway to the summit, and lean into the Adirondack breeze as you marvel at the world below you. This well-known mountain offers exciting and scenic runs for skiers of all levels: Beginners do well on Easy Acres, which features its own ski school, novices and intermediates enjoy Little Whiteface, while experts head to the heart-pounding summit.

Did the gondola ride with 2 five year olds. The ride's a little bumpy starting out but then is smoother. It was a fun ride with beautiful views. Highly recommend!

Wow!!!! When we first got to the toll, we were shocked at how expensive it is. I believe the Adirondacks should be a National Park and Whiteface Mountain should be part of it. Alas, it’s not, so until it is, it is worth the price of admission. Mind you — this is for using the road. If you hike the mountain, it’s free!

The drive was beautiful. We stopped at one of the many picnic tables along the drive for lunch. When we got to the top, we enjoyed the views and the gift shop. There are bathrooms and a food truck too. And then we climbed to the summit. It’s climb — issuing stone stairs rails, wires, etc — to get to the top, and once you are there, it is so peaceful. Yes, many people are up there with you, but it is so rejuvenating being up there. And while the climb can be vertigo inducing for though afraid of heights, you can take an elevator!!! There is an elevator from the parking lot to the summit. You enter a long, narrow cave to get to an elevator in the center of the mountain. It’s quite a feat of engineering, making the summit accessible to all. We rode it down for the experience.

All in all, we spent about 2-3 hours on the mountain. My kids who “hate hiking” and are afraid of heights LOVED it, too.

We come every year since 1997 and my kids literally grew up skiing here. We enjoy seeing the changes every year and are happy to see the evolving changes. We are lunch at the bear den restaurant and we’re very disappointed. $10 for a can of local beer. The southwest themed menu was not spectacular. I had the southwest salad and it literally was covered in jarred jalapeños. I could not eat it. Food is much better at the cloudspin lounge. Tap beer pint for $8 when the equivalent can ( 12oz) was $10 on the other side.
My daughters boyfriend joined us this year and he has never skied. We paid $69 and he did not get what we thought was an adequate lesson. We have raised our kids on the kids campus instruction and have taken adult lessons many many times . This was the first unsatisfactory lesson we have had. My brother in law who is an expert skier took over and instructed him from there. Improvements to the lifts have been a bonus. Conditions were good and everyone had a great time!

The gondola ride at Whiteface is always so much fun. The views once you get to the top of Little Whiteface are spectacular. It’s truly amazing the drop in temperature and increase in wind when you get up there. The ride is expensive, but it’s definitely worth it to get up there and explore for a bit.

A great view when the weather is clear! The trip up and back is exciting with tight corners and switchbacks along the way.

Kids lesson went very well and the instructor seemed really great! They definitely picked up skiing pretty quickly so we were happy on that front. I had to knock down 2 stars for the adult private lesson. My husband and I had a private lesson and it was a complete dud. I can't remember the instructor's name (this is a review of last year) but he just didn't seem like he was used to providing lessons. I do not doubt that he is an amazing skier but he certainly couldn't teach. I'm not sure I would return. Even my children were teaching us more than what we learned in our private lesson- go figure!

This is a great place to drive up and see a long ways. You can see Canada, beautiful rolling hills of New York. The fall leaf color is great to see from above

It cost us $40 to go up the toll road which I think it a lot of money. I asked about a senior citizen or AAA discount & she told us there was none. She said the view at the castle was 0 visibility but at the summit it was 5 so we went up. There are numerous areas a long the way where you can pull over & admire the view. Unfortunately the view at the castle & the summit were both 0. Very foggy. They are doing a lot of construction in the area. The gift shop is on the 2nd floor of the castle which makes no sense for those who are mobility impaired. You take an elevator to the summit which takes time as only those people in your party are allowed on the elevator. Unfortunately my husband was having breathing issues so we couldn't stay on the summit but you couldn't see anything anyways. Parking is also limited at the castle so you basically wait until somebody leaves & pull into their parking space.

Yes there are views of the whole valley and Lake Placid plus an alpine nature trail, but it was not worth the $60 toll charge that we had to pay. That is outrageous! Be forewarned anyone wanting to go there, it costs $20 for the vehicle and driver and $20 per each additional adult. Sticker shock!
