2 couples decided to go wine Tasting on Christmas Eve 2021 and we picked 4 wineries to try Johnson Estates being our last stop. It looked like they were closed but we went to the door and she said they were closing at 3 which was in 20 minutes but she said no worries come on in........what a sweet lady. I can't remember her name but she said she was retired and did this gig part time. She was super sweet, very knowledgeable and she knew her wines and the backgrounds to them. Three of us did the wine tasting (I myself had had enough and I opted for a cup of hot tea LOL) The other 3 had great tastings and they even gave out little containers of cheese and crackers with your tastings for in between which we thought was great. We did purchase a couple bottles of wine and we will definitely come back as I have seen pictures of the property and it looks like in the summer you can sit outside do your tastings and enjoy some snacks the property looks beautiful in the summer

The inside was decorated impeccably for the holidays the tree was beautiful and the way the tree light shimmered off the glass where the wine tanks are was amazing

I will recommend this winery to all my wine friends who want to have a great experience at a great place with wonderful workers. 5 star for sure all the way around

This winery was on of my favorites in the area. We especially enjoyed the liebestroepchen. The outdoor seating in the garden provided the perfect ambience. My only suggestion would be is to include a small food menu. Although they did provide small snack packs of cheese and nuts, we found that even a larger charcuterie board or flat bread pizzas would’ve been better. We went around lunch time and because we didn’t want to drink on an empty stomach, we ended up leaving sooner than we liked. We did however take a few bottles home with us .

We stopped here on a road trip looking for some sweet wines. We had a very friendly and knowledgeable employee providing suggestions and information on the wines as we sampled. We enjoyed everything we tried. We bought a couple bottles for our trip and then returned on our way back home to purchase more. I love that they sell many of their wines in 1.5 liter and even 3 liter bottles. This is uncommon to find at many of the other wineries we've been to. It also makes it much more affordable to purchase. I didn't notice anywhere to sit and drink the wines onsite which is too bad because with all the good wines we tried it would be a good place to spend a couple hours taking in the scenery and enjoying some of their wine.

Thank you for your kind comments. We are of course proud of our wines, and I’m happy to report that we just won 4 gold medals at the Eastern International Wine Competition. (More than any other NY or PA winery). Our Prosecco style Sparking Traminette won “Best of Class” and 96 points, and our House Red, which you may have tried in the 1.5L bottle, won 90 points and a gold medal. As to your suggestion about a place to sit and enjoy the scenery, we agree and are already working on it. Best regards, Fred Johnson

We were at Lake Chataqua in July, picked out this winery based on reviews and proximity. I mistakenly thought we could look around and have a nice tasting. We were greeted at the counter by a young lady who could not care less that we were there. We bought a couple bottles after tasting, but she could care less that we were there. It took me 6 months to write this as I do not like to give bad reviews, but every time I sit down for a glass of wine this bad experience pops into my head.

Thank you for writing, as well as your reluctance to share a poor review. We pride ourselves on our customer service and appreciate your feedback. I don't know as our staff were wearing masks during the time of your visit? But we do know that masks can muffle our greetings, especially with our quieter employees. We will be sure to discuss with our tasting room staff. We hope that you enjoy your next glass of wine without this reminder—and that you give us another try. If you are back in the area, please email retail@johnsonwinery.com and we will send you tasting passes for a return visit. Happy New Year!

First winery we visited while in the area. Didn't like any of the wines I tasted (6). Person serving me didn't interact much - no sharing of info about any of the wines. Only responded when I ask/said something to her. Sign said the gardens were open but little response when I asked about them.

We had not been to Johnson Estates in several years and our bartender recognized us and we remembered him. Our tasting was delightful as always. We enjoyed everything we tried. We purchased the Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, toasted oak Chardonnay and maple Liqueur. The tasting is a bit pricey though the winds are not. You can easily find a bottle in the $15 range. They have sufficient parking and our handicap accessible. We will be back!

Listen to the staff & ask for the person who has the most wine knowledge of the estate. Coming from the Hudson Valley, we were unfamiliar with the wineries in that area-thought it was way too cold that far north. Luckily the person who served as our guide was very knowledgeable -and local to HV too. Enjoyed our tasting. Asked a lot of questions & all were answered knowledgably. Recommended tastings based on what we liked but also went out of our comfort zone to try a few others. Brought a few bottles home for us as well as gifts. There are several other wineries & distilleries in close proximity, Wine Discovery center was unfortunately closed on Sun. If you are in the area, plan to spend an entire day visiting the wineries. It will be well worth your while.

A large variety of wines to taste! There are two types of tastings, but both allow you to choose your tastes. Wines range from dry to sweet. Plenty for all. Ice wine tasting is extra, but it is well worth it. This winery grows nearly all of their grapes! I enjoyed an unoaked Chardonnay, a lovely light Pinot Noir, and a wonderfully unique dry Riesling. The Chambourcin ice wine was so flavorful.

Our server was knowledgeable, interesting, and generally an wonderful help.

I highly recommend a stop. Be ready to buy some! You're bound to find something to your liking.

Very good selections. They have won a number of awards and after trying them I understand why. Enjoyed every wine that we tasted and took a lot home with us. The historic barn is a very nice place for the tasting and is very convenient to the Thruway. I highly recommend a stop here if you are passing through the area.

This was such a nice winery. The young men who served us were friendly and knowlegeable. They were really just a lo of fun. The wines were really good. We especially enjoyed the Blueberry Dessert and the Maréchal Foch. Stop by if you get the chance.
