As soon as we mentioned that there was a 'big gun' at the top of Oliver Hill our children needed no more incentive than that to reach the top, although depending on your level of fitness if you are cycling up, you may need to walk some of it! We didnt take the tour but it was free to wonder... More

Very few West Australians are aware of how close the Japanese came to invading West Australia in 1942. Broome in the north was bombed as part of an attack on the top end of Australia. Here on Rottnest large guns were installed to protect the river mouth into Perth. Some amazing engineering went into the construction of the tunnels beneath... More

We didn't do the guns and tunnel tour we just did the return train trip but it was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon. Lovely scenery and some great photos to be had once up the top of the hill. The driver was very friendly and knowledgeable too.

Great for making memories and learning some history. Kids love the underground tunnels, the big gun and the stories of preparing for war. Excellent tour guides made learning easy. A bit pricey, but worth it for a change of pace on Rotto.

There were a few kids on the tour and she tailored it so that it was easily understandable for all ages. Amazing tidbit Chris shared... More

During world war 2 Perths forward defences from the sea were situated on Rottnest. The big guns of the Oliver hill battery are in great condition and a must see. You can get away with not doing a tour. Either bus or ride their ... Cars are not done on Rottnest except by island officials. Littered across the island are... More

Cycled up through the lakes stopping for Geocaches along the way. We didn't bother with the tour just read the boards. Met the rail safety officer and his strange adapted vehicle

I felt our guide was very knowledgeable but was in a hurry for some reason. We got the pack drill! Lost of stairs and climbing. Not for the unfit
