We really enjoyed sampling a range of very good wines for an hour, but we were disappointed that the cheese & salami platters were not served to us until 3pm for lunch. Maybe a group of 15 was too much for the chef?

Wow, spectacular setting - vineyards, ducks and welcoming. Jo warmly welcomed us to the cellar door and we indulged in a wonderful tasting - with Jo giving us great insight into each wine (she was fantastic).

We started off with the signature wine from the region, Riesling. We tasted the Porongurup Riesling (amazing nose) and the Riesling from the Langton vineyard. We both preferred the Langton Riesling but both excellent. The other signature wine from the region is Pinot and the Single Vineyard Pinot Noir was fantastic - we loved it! We also tried the Malbec, Frankland River Shiraz and the Book Ends Cabernet Sauvignon, with my husband loving the Cab Sauv.

I'd highly recommend a visit to West Cape Howe Wines - and massive thanks to Jo for great insights on the wines - brilliant and a highlight.

The winery is located in a lovely rural setting some 10 mins drive out of Mt Barker. The tasting room is equally inviting, located in a charmingly restored 1915 cottage, with its inside walls decorated with works by local artists. Really, it is hard to imagine a better environment in which to taste some wines. Our hostess was also charming: friendly, very knowledgeable about wines and the district, even patient! The tasting list is quite extensive and we were able to sample everything that was available (some had already sold out). We liked the wines very much, and most were very reasonably priced. Needless to say we left with a nice supply, very pleased with our experience here.

This was our first stop of our wine tour. Staff were very friendly and recommended other places to visit along our way. Beautiful wines and great coffee. Ample parking and big grassed area for kids to run around on.

We spent a fair bit of time in the Denmark / Mount Barker region and I’m pretty sure the warmest greeting we got was from Gill and Gavin at West Cape Howe.
The fire was going and the coffee they roast was awesome (you can buy beans as well).
But the wines are terrific and at a really good price point. We ended up with a few cartons.
It’s a touch out of the way, but we’ll worth the trip.

Quite a few metallic sculptures greet you before you enter the winery. Good prices and a vast array of wines to try which some are a little unusual, like the vermentino. This would be a good picnic spot too, but they also sell food. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere abound.

We stopped here for a wine tasting- we were welcomed and had the chance to try some very nice wines and purchase for reasonable prices.
We sat on comfortable couches by a huge log fire for coffee, and would be keen to try the platters next visit.

Stumbled across West Cape Howe after looking at wineries in Mt Barker. Couldn’t have been more impressed! First impression walking in was beautiful with a roaring fire and lovely lounges - made for a cosy winters day. We had our dog travelling with us and the staff were more than accomodating for her.. showering her with pats and attention before turning to us. We tried a few different wines and Jacqui was great with her explanations of wines, recommending different ones to try and what she liked best.
We then decided to have a platter and Jacqui and Evie (it was her first day) made the most incredible platter for us.
The vineyard itself was immaculate and beautiful to sit outside on the tables in the sun.
All in all, highly recommend.
