We enjoyed our drive around this State Park but had a lot of trouble finding a number of the apparent historical highlights of the region. Maybe that’s because the ruins are exactly that and hardly exist anymore, making it very difficult to identify! Even with maps and information from the Tourist Centre we struggled to find certain attractions. We did enjoy the Aboriginal Maternity Tree, the Aboriginal Water Wells and Possum Gully Art Gallery. But nice to cruise around the roads and tracks, visiting Talbot and Maryborough.

Great lookout from which you could view the township of Maryborough. The historic walk over the old gold mining fields was interesting.

Wandering through the state park during Spring is something very special... Australian native plants are blended into their environment. If you walk, you see a hue of yellow and as you walk closer you will see thousands of tiny yellow flowers... and not a single yellow... the colours blend to weave nature's rug and it's stunningly beautiful. Add to this splashes of red, purple, white... against the earthy colours...and you are entering a space that will sooth your soul.

To quote D.H.Lawrence who captures it so elegantly-

I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration...

A great place to walk the dog, take pics, exercise, ride mountain bikes, take in the fresh air...the dirt road is quiete accessible, with a bit of a bump here and there, there are many tracks so you can explore the area...

Ideal for anyone who has not visited the Australian bush but not wise to visit on high fire danger days, especially as they place barriers across a roadway to prevent vehicles from entering (or escaping).
Otherwise many wildflowers to view in spring.

What a nice area with picnic stops and a camping ground on offer with many vehicle tracks and walking trails. We stayed one night at the camp ground which provided (long-drop) toilets, fire places and some bench seats set among trees and bushes. It was very quiet but this might have been because the nights were frosty.
