The Camino brought me here, but Pontevedra can stand on its own merits. If you enjoy history, architecture, food, shopping, and walking, then you will love this little bit of heaven in Galicia. The old town is perfect for exploring, and I could have easily spent another day taking in the many sights. The colorful banners strung from the buildings are in honor of the Jubilee Holy Year, extended through 2022. Locals, tourists, pilgrims - I felt a real energy here that I loved.

Pontevedra is not on many itineraries so most of the tourists you meet will be Spanish. The old quarter is very well preserved. Walk from the Cathedral Square down to the old fish market by the river. There is a great old bridge with Camino "shells" on each pier.

Just wander around the uncrowded streets and enjoy a lovely city.

And also walk the river walk from the center of town out toward the train and bus stations. Nothing spectacular, but it's shaded and so beautiful.

What a beautiful town. We made this our base for a week, staying in an apartment. We visited Santiago and Vigo as well as the wonderful Illas Cies. We were so glad we chose Pontevedra to stay in. Just the right mix of buzz and peacefulness. There was live Galician music several nights. Great restaurants at very reasonable prices. Lovely squares to relax in. Much preferred it to the bigger cities of Santiago and Vigo. Great trains and buses too.

This is an old town, thick stone wall buildings, quaint neighbourhoods, no cars allowed (no parking for them). There's an "Avenida de Peregrinos" - and the Ponte de Borgo that is part of the Camino route. Lots of church buildings - Cathedral, Basilica, Convent - fountains, sculptures. And restaurants and shops. This is old world Spain, a reminder how wealthy it was.

Full of green, flowers, churchs, restaurants the old town is an intimate trip to inner galicia. Take it slow, stroll the cinco esquinas square and enjoy pure air.

This is a gem. And almost a secret one. As someone who lives in the city, I really shouldn't be telling you and attracting more tourists but I'm a missionary for the place. Sadly, many 'pilgrims' on the Portuguese Camino give it a miss and walk down the camino to the river, when it's only a few metres away from the designated. The old quarter has 4 or 5 lovely little squares and an excellen museum/art gallery. In summer it's one huge bar from 11pm to the early hours of the next day.

The old city of Pontevedra is marked by some stunning streets and squares of granite and a few great churches and other religious buildings. It is well worth a visit.

This city is paradise: there are almost no cars in the city centre. You will find a surprising old area full of churches, buildings from past centuries with coats of arms, lovely squares and green areas. Pedestrianised city centre full of life with multiple shops, restaurants... Recommended the promenade especially next to the island of sculptures.

Nice and very well kept. Not crowdy, not very touristic, at least it is not invaded (YET!!) by cheap shops for tourists.
Many bars for tapas and traditional Spanish food. Most guests are locals.
