This 18th century Baroque and neo-classical pilgrim chapel is built in the shape of a scallop shell! The interior is imposing, yet modest. Huge arcs arches carved in the shape of Doric columns and a large chandelier give way to a central shrine dedicated to la Virgen Peregrina. For 1 euro I walked up to the top of the rotunda... More

With everything or so we were told closed in Santiago Compostella we decided to drive down to Pontevedra. Saw a road sign suggesting a restaurant, found, parking was easy, the restaurant, hmmm. We walked the short distance to the city centre, came across the sign to the tourist office - see the photo, clearly they don't take tourism too seriously.... More

This church was designed to serve pilgrims along the Camino. It's a great place to pray, and don't forget to note that the floor plan is in the shape of a scallop shell!

The church is at the heart of the Pontevedra, where the old town meets the main shopping street and it's considered a meeting point for many. The church is both beautiful during the day and particularly at night. Worth a look inside too!

Amazing church dedicated to the Peregina Virgin. The shap is of a scallop and it has lots of curious details. All the lamps on the wall have scallops and it has holy water in a huge shell. There are some stairs and there is no access for people on wheelchair. If you come to Pontevedra, you shouldn't miss visiting it.

This is a lovely 'pilgrim' church, the floor plan of which is shaped like the traditional scallop. It's just outside the old quarter, on the camino route that comes up from Portugal. There are a couple of decent bars right behind it and the square in front of it is the centre of many of the town's events

I had one of the most experience of my life inside this church. For female pilgrims, this church is an icon, a true celebration of thousands of miles walked along so many paths. And the image is beautiful!

Dedicated to the Virgin A Peregrina, patron of the province of Pontevedra and Portuguese Way of St. James the late Baroque Capela da Virxe Peregrina just off the Praza Ferreria is a symbol of Pontevedra. The church is notable for its curved facade and floor, which has an unusual scallop shell shape (reflecting its dedication to pilgrimage to Santiago de... More

This is a beautiful church situated in the heart of the old town in Pontevedra. Built on a floor plan in the shape of a scallop shell, the symbol of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. The Camino Portugues meanders through Pontevedra. If you are passing this way stop awhile and admire the interior.
