You won’t believe what you see: pure, beautiful, well executed, original, simplicity made art. One of the best places you can visit if spending a few days in Soria. Would get back, no questioning!

Monasterio de San Juan de Duero is a old monastery located in Soria, a city in Castilla y León Region. In this monastery you can only see the main church, which is very beautiful. Inside it, you can see som objects of the Middle Ages. Interesting. The best part of the monastery is the cloister, when you can see a lot of wonderful columns in different architectonic styles. Very nice.

The mixture of styles is something I have never seen before. It is an unique sight. Take a look at all the details which are in the pillars.

Different thtan the usual spanish old churchs. It is worth a visit and it is close to the Duero river. A short drive from Soria and entrance is free.

Others have described the history etc. This a small site on the edge of a lovely river, on the edge of an industrial town which has lots of 'old' interesting buildings. I was intrigued by the capitals, all beautifully and clearly carved, telling their story.
Enjoyed the mellow tones.

This must be the most perfect collection of Romanesque arches in Spain, possibly in the whole of Europe! As I am an arch-obsessive, it made me very very happy. There are arches outside, different shapes (some quite unusual) and also inside in the church, which has an uneven mediaeval floor to walk on, and beautiful capitals.

Built in the XII c. this monastery is a great example of Romanesque architecture. There is an impressive cloister to discover - well preserved - as well as the remains of a church where columns' capitals are nicely decorated with allegorical scenes. Recommended if you're visiting Soria

A long, hot walk across town and over the lovely river Duero is a striking sight. A group of people later known as the Knights of Malta took over a church to make it their headquarters after returning from the crusades. The wonderful cloister has 4 different arch styles, the simple Romanesque, the Islamic horseshoe, and 2 other eastern styles all blending into a harmonious whole. Wonderful carvings on the capitals, and inside the church all combine with the rural setting to make a wonderful whole. We spent a long time there, entry was free on Sunday until 2pm. Soria has magnificent Romanesque architecture.

Happen to visit cousins during the fiestas de San Juan. What a party! Music, drinks and food mixed with people from all over the world. Soria has many sites like caveman drawings, cathedral, and a monastery by the river. The river is the place to be where the festival starts and ends. I didn't understand the significance of pouring wine all over yourself and others but it looked like fun. Beware of Mosquitos and viper snakes. Take spray.

This place is easily reachable in Soria. It, too, is situated along the river. There is a parking lot that is very convenient and the entrance is a short stroll away.

This is a very interesting place, but could benefit from additional information. The little museum on site has very few exhibits, but they are interesting. Unfortunately, they left me wanting more info about the cultures that were included in the exhibits. I think more information could be provided about the monastery as well. I had more questions when I left than when I entered.

Definitely see this if you're in the area, but don't make a special trip just to see it.
