You can come here walking from the parking near the road (around 2 Km by the river, nice views and great nature) or you can park closer and just cross a bridge to arrive faster. Once there, you will find an old temple on top of a cave where this saint used to live. It is one of the main... More

Happened upon this site and found it to be enchanting and full of interesting history. Most information available only in spanish. Well worth the visit and very different from your typical religious site.

On a very hot morning it was a lovely shaded walk to this place of sanctuary high up on the hill. A look into the life of a hermit monk, the chapel was very beautifully decorated, and the whole place had a very peaceful, spiritual feel despite the groups of tourists.

This site is close to the city and easily reached on foot (although it is a bit of a walk) or by car. It is perched along the river and has great views. It is located in a park or nature area which also appears to be popular with locals for running/walking and getting out with kids/pets. The descriptions are... More

We visited this as part of a day out, walking along the river and going to the monastery of San Juan. It's a great place to wander along the river and look at the views. The actual hermitage is up a hill, so may not be suitable for all. Once inside, there are rather a lot of steps, so again,... More

Great area to walk, exercise, explore along the banks of the river- the building is interesting to explore for young and old - it hangs above the river and there is an interesting story about a miracle involving a young boy falling from a window.

Normally when I visit a Hermitage church I always feel rather disappointed as there is never very much to it. However in this instance I was very happily surprised. Firstly the walk along the riverside to get there is a treasure. There is a beautiful walkway alongside the bank of the river Duero. You then cross over the bridge where you find... More

Within walking distance (15 minutes) of the Monastry of San Juan just along the river. Very pretty, though you can drive to it through a very narrow arch, so no camper vans. Well not unless you wnat to get stuck.

Park the car and walk the distance to the sanctuary, you can come back on the opposite riverbank. The interior of the santctuary is very special and richly decorated.
