this was one of the best wine stores that we visited and it was right outside the back door of our hotel. when we arrived they asked if we wanted to go on a tour of a local Chateau and winery before tasting the wines. so we said yes and they drove us to Le Chatelet winery. it was closed but the store had keys so they were able to take us on a private tour of the Chateau. the wine guy gave us an incredible overview of the 800 or so Chateaus making wine in Saint Emilion. once back at the store we had a 1/2 hour wine tasting. they were so nice and friendly and there was no pressure to buy any wine. we did anyway and enjoyed the bottles we bought during the rest of our visit in france.

The service is friendly and the place has a huge selection. You get to taste most of the wines before buying, which is a standard procedure in all St. Emilion wine shops. However, I witnessed something that should never happen to a customer: they gave me a Pomerol to taste but to the glass the gentleman serving me pourred 50 % of a better Pomerol which was double the price. It's propably much easier to sell cheaper wines if you add some quality stuff in the glass. This happened after I had tasted 3 wines of which 1 I had decided to buy (we are talking about 40 € wines). The other wine that he added (Clos 56), did cost around 80-90 €. I still bought this one bottle (and a 82 € bottle of Armagnac) because I couldn't first believe my eyes. However while paying, I could clearly see, what was poured to me and I felt really screwed because of this. They should be able to make the profit with honesty. The bottle that I bought would have been 3 € cheaper in the wine shop (green coloured) right opposite to Marchand de Soif. Nicer service there as well. So skip this place.

A jamais !

We asked to do a wine tasting. Without any costs, we were allowed to try five different wines and a rose. As we did not know a lot about wines, we could ask all questions that were answered perfectly in English. Because of this service and kind help, we decided to buy some amazing wines. I can recommend this place to anybody who wants to give wine tasting a try!

Happened to be browsing in this shop, which is one of the more high end shops in this tiny town of about 40 wine merchants. Started talking to Gerome and he was so kind to allow us to taste and he explained all about the delicious wines. They had a great selection of wines, cognac and other items. There was no pressure to buy but the wine was so good and the prices were so fair that we ended up shipping a case home!
