The name of the lagoon might make you scratch your head, but in Spanish it has no negative meaning.
This is a large, beautiful lagoon (lake) surrounded by sand dunes. It is located 25 minutes east of Paracas, at the end of a long and sandy road.
It is - in my opinion - the best place in Peru to go for a swim. This is because of several factors.
1) The water is not salty, because it is not water from the ocean.
2) There are no waves, because it is a lake, and not big enough to have real currents or waves
3) Since it is located around sea level, it enjoys warm (hot!) temperatures during the summer months of December to mid March.
Unlike Huacachina, the sand dunes are not huge. This place is not a place where you would want to go sandboarding or ride in a buggy. But for swimming, kayaking, or taking a rowboat onto the water, it is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than Huacachina (which is relatively dirty and not appetizing for a swim).
The lagoon itself is free to visit, but you will incur a cost in getting here because the taxis have to travel and wait for you.

The Moron oasis is an actual hidden gem, as you will find only locals here. It must be how the popular Huacachina oasis used to be except that this lake is much larger and the dunes much lower. You can swim here as it is not polluted. To get here you must have private transportation. We took a taxi from Paracas for a day and combined it with the pre Columbian archeological site Tambo Colorado. We paid around 150 sol for the trip but that’s the price for going such places and it was well worth it!
