Poor land management

I have lived in Chile a very long time and we have continually hiked the dunes, they are amazing, they are a wonder. Unfortunately, people keep dumping trash and partying on the dunes, there are no signs or laws enforcing cleaning up trash. The keep building on this beautiful space and it's a damn shame.

Great view

I was renting an apartment nearby and these dunes are lovely. Really odd as they are in the middle of a built up area. I wouldn't go during the heat of the day but sunset is nice.

Very cheap (3000 for 1 hour) this was super fun and a great way to spend some time. Bring socks o wear sneakers as the sand is very hot! Super nice view of the coast and the city, great pictures and long sandbaording runs. you do have to walk back up so you get a workout in as well!

HOT...but "cool"!

Just north of Valpo & Vina del Mar, the dunes of Concon are worth a visit. You can simply walk up and take in the ocean/city views or you can rent a cheap "sandboard".
Free to visit, fairly steep, but soft sands and quite vast. Be warned: sand gets VERY HOT in summer months!

Get down and dirty!

We drove to the area found parking outside a shopping mall along the road and walked to the base of the hill (east side). A vender was renting a number of boards and wax for $1000 CLP/ hour (about $1.50). The right board made all the difference...choose wisely. The hike up was the most difficult as the sand on this side of the dune is baked in sun and was REALLY hot on the feet. Bring the proper foot wear. Flipflops are not appropriate! Once at the top there was a good view south of Viña Del Mar and Valpairaíso. If you don't board be prepared anyway for sand in the face, eyes, and clothes. If you do board, use plenty of wax and go straight down as it's near impossible to carve. Surprisingly some of our better boarders were first timers (even for snow or water) My daughter showed up my son-in-law who boasted of his snowboarding prowes but failed to deliver even one good run down. Just relax and put your weight back and go for it. The drones we had with us made capturing the morning activity more memorable. They all wanted to do it again some day.

Ouch!!!!

We heard about the Dunes so had to go see them and perhaps Snow board down. There are some rentals at the base, just guys hanging out. What we did not know was there is BLACK sand mixed in and the sand is beyond HOT. It was not a hot day. We were in Flip Flops and it was struggle to get to the top. It was painful. The view was cool. I suspect the Dunes won't be around in 10 years as they don't generate revenue and all the new construction will continue to eat into them. Definitely a must do, in tennis shoes or boots.

Great place to take your kids or teenagers

The dunes that are located across the street from Jumbo Concon are busy with young people much of the time as they ride down the steep sand dunes on devices similar for riding down a hill covered with snow. I am a bit too old for that, but it is easy to see they are having a great time with this basically free activity. Looks like a good father/son/daughter activity.

At the moment you meet this place you don't know what to do first. When I visit it the first thing was a rest on the sand and after to begin with a photo sesion to finish with the sunet with a tropical and a joint to join in the enjoy.

You can to play to fight or to run down-way obviously carefully and to make everything you want you can't do in a normal place.

There's a place there to rent boards to slide. ($10 x Hour)

beautiful view to the sea
Oct 2018 • Friends
Visited dunes de concon with a friend. Once you get on the top the view is awesome. We could hear the sea lions screaming on the rocks down the beach. There was a nice view to Valparaiso. Some people rented a snowboard to go down the dunes. It was a beautiful experience and the weather was nice until we got down the dunes, the weather went suddenly super foggy.

Natural Survivor
Sep 2018 • Solo
With high rise developments all around the dunes are a remarkable natural survivor in this part of the World. New developments seem to be encroaching even further.
