- richardfranzenAllentown, New Jersey37 contributionsIt’s an animal rescue, not a zooBeen going to Philip’s Animal Garden for over a decade now. Even wrote a review a few years back. After reading some current reviews, felt obligated to write another. This is not a zoo, it’s an animal rescue specializing in exotic pets. So a bit different than the San Diego Zoo. It’s a non profit simply trying to do their best for the animals. Yes, the pens are not as fancy and some of the animals look tired. That’s what to expect from a charity taking in neglected former pets. They are doing the best they can, which is certainly a lot better than would happen to these animals otherwise. This is a great place to visit. Cost is low ($10 per person). You get to hand feed animals (the goats are show stealers). And you are supporting a great cause.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 29, 2023
- KJKNYCNew York City, New York239 contributionsA must for animal lovers! If you are an animal lover, you will absolutely enjoy making a stop at Philips. When you arrive you give a $10 entrance fee and they give you 2 bags of food to share with the animals. We spent time feeding donkeys, goats, deer, monkeys, tortoises, parrots, and a few other furry friends. To our eyes, the animals seemed well taken care of, and the staff was very friendly. We actually returned to the front to make an additional donation to purchase extra food so we could spend more time with the monkeys. I wonder if we had brought fruit if we could have fed them items we had with us. We found out that the monkeys love grapes! We spent about two hours there. I imagine most people would spend an hour, but we really were having fun interacting with the animals. Wear sunscreen. Bring water. Enjoy!Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 6, 2024
- Jeremy SPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania87 contributionsGreat Animal Sanctuary! This animal sanctuary truly exceeded our expectations. It was far larger than we expected, and amazingly clean. When you pay admission they give you a bag of treats and you can feed the animals as you walk around. They all appeared to be healthy and well cared for, with plenty of space in their enclosures. It is definitely not a zoo, although it is large enough that it almost could be. Definitely put this on your list if you're an animal lover!Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 10, 2024
- Gina C7 contributionsLoved the monkeys most of all! It’s important to keep in mind this is a non-profit and it isn’t going to look as fancy as a zoo you are used to going to. That being said our trip was better than I expected, I had a great time feeding the animals and seeing all the different species they had there. They take in neglected exotic pets and animals that may have otherwise been euthanized. The monkeys were all jumping around and having a great time. There is one that is alone but I’d have to think there is a good reason for it since they have others together. The bird enclosures were all clean and they were all singing and chattering away. The only thing I’d like to see in signs by the animals with a bit of information about what they are and maybe how they came to be at the sanctuary. We were on a little of a time constraint so spent about 1.5 hours there but I could have easily stayed longer and would definitely return!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 12, 2024
- Sheila C1 contributionTake a taxi and enjoy the visitI was a bit concerned (reading some reviews here) that I would see neglected animals without water and food. When we got there (around 10am) the staff was making the rounds providing food and water so depending on where we were, yes I saw some animals without food and water but I also saw staff doing what looked like the daily chores of feeding and providing water and we were just steps ahead of them. We had a great time. We weren't able to do a tour so we meandered around. $10 per person. We also brought an additional 2 pounds of carrots (thanks for the tip from another reviewer). I'm an animal lover and enjoyed every moment of my visit. Some of the goats were roaming around free and I saw a donkey goose someone (that was a good laugh for us and the person goosed). I am a parrot owner of 4 rescues and I can say it was discouraging that there were no toys or anything for the birds to forage but all of the enclosures were very large and not over crowded at all plus they get to be outside in the beautiful weather (in the shade) so overall, I think it's a great place. My husband got too close to the monkey cage and got poked in the nose and that was really funny. Highly recommended. Staff was very friendly.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 26, 2024
- renee77777772 contributionsA great spot to visit!Went to Philips as part of a UTV tour and loved it so much we went back!! The animals are rescues - and are all well cared for! Everything is clean and well fed. Each visitor gets a cup of carrots to share with you and your four-legged animals …… horses, deer, goats, kangaroos, turtles and bunnies! My favorite was the camel! Baby peacocks as well! A little hard to find as the signs are missing but well worth the trek!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 6, 2024

I had a wonderful time at Philip’s Animal Garden during my stay in Aruba. The tour included a chance to see and feed the beautiful animals that are housed there. Next was riding on the ATVs or in the UTVs(your preference) and going on a tour through the desert. They also provide you with a face covering that can cover your head completely, and you have the choice to purchase some goggles for $10! Or you can wear your own sun shades! On the tour itself you can stop along the way and take pictures of the beautiful scenery, and even grab a bite to eat if you get hungry. The last stop of the tour you have the choice to jump off the cliff into a very shallow body of water. (About 7ft deep) this was the highlight of my tour! I had amazing tour guides named JoJo and Robert! Both were very knowledgeable about the history of the area, funny and professional! I would go here again!

For all the reviews criticizing this rescue, be realistic. It is a RESCUE not a 5 star zoo. These animals are being given an opportunity to survive and you are being given an opportunity to interact and feed them (give them lots of head scratches!) it can be hot so dress accordingly and bring water. Admission gives you a bag of feed. I noticed guinea pigs (bring them lettuce! I am a proud guinea pig mom back home) enjoy your time and get to know the wildlife of Aruba. All entry fees go to running the establishment and taking care of the animals, so is ten dollars really that much? We will be back!

What a wonderful farm!!! Phillip’s rescues and cares for animals that were snuggled to Aruba. We paid $10 each and we’re each given a bag of food to feed the animals. The Camel is the SWEETEST animal ever! We had fun feeding the donkeys and the goats and the deer. It was a lovely trip. Would recommend if you’re an animal lover or want a fun activity to do with children!

I did a private jeep tour with Ea and I would totally recommend it! He knew so much about the island and answered so many questions. We got to see the Natural Pool, Gold Mine Ruins, Natural Bridge, and Philips Animal Garden. I loved the animal garden because we got to see all different kinds of animals!! We got to feed them and I even got to feed a 3 month old baby goat! There were peacocks running around and they were gorgeous! I totally recommend doing the private jeep tour because there is air conditioning and it is just you and your group. We also got to see the other part of the island where there are little shacks on the water which was cool to see.

Another great animal spot in Aruba. As I have mentioned before, it is nice to support the local animal rescue on the island. Kids enjoyed interacting with all of the animals, and they have a large variety of animals. Kids especially loved the monkeys.

This place is depressing AF. The POOR animals. They didn’t have water in their pens on an incredibly hot day. Some were so distressed, they had bare spots - missing fur or feathers. The ostriches are in small enclosures and they NEED to be able to run; the poor things pulled out most their feathers on their backs which they do when they are stressed out. The other birds were in cages with no stimulation; parrots are smart animals. They need toys and enrichment. They clearly aren’t keeping the goats, pigs and bunnies from constantly mating and reproducing because there were way too many animals for the pens. And the poor, sad monkeys. I know it says “non-profit” but this place is Aruba’s own Tiger King. Donate fruit and veggies so these animals don’t continue to suffer but don’t give these people money.

I was excited to see an animal sanctuary open for tours in Aruba but walked around the property feeling so sad for the animals. Never mind that there was no tour of the property; the cages and pens are rusted and dilapidated, the monkeys are lonely and sad (kept alone in bare bones cages without stimulation - it was particularly depressing to see one monkey holding a stuffed animal and pretending to pick bugs off of it in lieu of having a real companion). The property looks under construction, there are no signs with information about the animals you’re looking at, and no one is around to ensure tourists aren’t feeding the birds and monkeys improper food. It also seems potentially risky to keep the snake cages directly next to the bunny and wild cat cages. The two horses barely had any available shade and one seemed rather elderly and frail. I wanted to stay forever but not because it was a happy, interesting place, instead because I felt bad leaving the animals there. I am a huge supporter of animal rescues and sanctuaries so I really hope they can address concerns to make it a nicer, safer place for the animals.

Can I bring my own carrots and grapes to feed the animal
Written April 16, 2024
What's the admission price per adult and per child? Does my 3-year old have to pay?
Written July 30, 2019
Not sure about the three year old but it’s well worth a few bucks extra donation- these folks work so hard to care for these animals (as you’ll see if you there). It’s a beautiful animal menagerie.
Written July 31, 2019
What is the cost per adult? Can I purchase tickets online in advance?
Written March 14, 2019
Still accepting only cash. USD $10, includes bag of treats for animals.
Worthwhile. Go early in the day.
Enjoy!

You can get there by taxi and stay 2-3 hrs. They have recently built Cafe on the Zoo property. Be sure to visit Peter the monkey. He has very large cage as you walk in the zoo to the left and far back. Ask anyone at zoo if you can’t find him. We have been there twice and spent well over an hour each time petting/rubbing Peter. He is do friendly.

Is there a gift shop as well, because I’m an animal lover and so is my family and I’d love to bring back an animal related item for them!
Written June 12, 2018
I do not recall any gift shop. Still a fun place to visit though!

I would love to visit this sanctuary but am deathly afraid of snakes. Are the roaming free too, like many of the other animals I've read reviews about or are they contained?
Written January 22, 2018
All of the snakes that have been rescued are all housed inside enclosures that can only be accessed by the staff of Philips Animal Garden.
Written January 22, 2018
I emailed this question to the email address listed on your website and are yet to receive a response. I will try my luck here. Is there a restaurant at this establishment for snacks or drinks?
Thank you!

We're travelling via cruise ship to Aruba next year, and this seems like a great place to take our kids, aged 3 and 5. What would be the best way for us to get to the Animal Garden?
Written November 17, 2016
Good Morning thank you for considering Philips Animal Garden during your stop here in Aruba.
The kids will LOVE the garden. There are very few places in the world where they would be able to get up close and hand feed the likes of baby dwarf goats or llamas and miniature pony's, let alone feed a camel or kangaroo!!!!
The best / easiest way to get here is via taxi.
Have a safe cruise hope to see you and the young one's here at Philips Animal Garden next year.
