The town square is surrounded by beautiful old buildings with timber frames painted in varying pastel colours. You can imagine exactly how it would have looked several hundred years ago. The square has plenty of small shops selling a range of things from toys to...More

We needed to break up a drive and arranged to stay at Relais de Mirepoix for a night. We had no idea in advance what a charming little town this would be - much more interesting to us than the tourist trap at Carcassonne.. Definitely...More

By happenstance I met the mayor as she was joining for some sort of professional gathering. It was great to see the village leadership, and the renovation of the building is looking great. I think they said it should be done this fall.

Place Marechal Leclerc is a good example of the Bastide style of building construction, which was popular in Medieval times. It is half timbered and constructed from wood and cob (a type of mud). Most romantic and well worth a detour.

This is an amazing medieval village right on the middle of town with all of the original type buildings and a square full of shops and restaurants. Highly recommend spending a few hours walking around Mirepoix.

Wandering round the Place was a delightful experience. There was the cathedral with bells chiming the hour. Interesting little shops, cafes and restaurants on 3 sides of the Place under the eaves.

This square is really different from the other ones that we saw in France. It has a very old feel - with the medieval buildings and the shade underneath them. I would recommend going to Mirepoix just for this experience - especially when the market...More

The medieval square is a wonderful sight, the timber collandes provide shade in the heat of the summer and allow you to sit and sip a cafe, pression or verre de vin and watch the world slowly slip by.

Visited mirepoix on a number of occasions. Staying just outside Mirepoix it was a great town to visit when market was on. Lovely local produce set in a colourful town centre. Plenty of bars and cafes in the square where you can watch the world...More
