The building itself is very beautiful. This is one of the few museums I have visited in South Africa that I would recommend (the others seem to be collections of blown up newspaper articles). Thoughtfully curated. The golden rhino is obviously the main draw, but its worth going through all the other exhibits to learn about the long and complicated history of Mapungubwe.

I heavily recommend pairing this with the heritage tour offered by the Park. Our guide was Cedric and he did a fantastic job of giving us an overview of the history as well as answering all our questions.

I visited with family the Mapungubwe Museum. However the Receptionist Khensani could not explain the procedure for the Museum. When we reach the Museum we were told that if to go the Mountain or the hill where the Rhino Gold was found we need to pay extra money. This information was revealed to us as tourist, the Museum lost income and we were denied an opportunity to visit the important site.

In this museum you can learn about the human development and occupation among years, their habits and the park’s history. Beyond that you have a wonderful game reserve to explore (with the triple border) and the confluence view. It does not worth travel all the way from Johannesburg. But if you are at the north part of Kruger, go and make a visit

Well designed, with lots of interesting exhibits well organised to tell the story of the kingdom (in English). Great cafe too. Best to do in conjunction with the site tour.

The exhibits at this museum are dubious in nature, although the golden rhino is allegedly there and the restaurant is a further disappointment, no real meals, only light snacks.

For me the attractions were it is a World Heritage Site and the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers (where you can also see the triple border between Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa). The archeological part Really interesting, as the occupation of the site was made, going through periods dating back to 300000 years ago. A pleasant surprise was a herd of elephants that I encountered on the way to the confluence view. But other than that, if you have a tight schedule, this stretch is perfectly skippable.

I don’t remember the price but it is cheaper if you have the SANParks card

This place should be better marketed, there is great African history there. The museum is not impressive, they need to put more information on display. The views at the conflunce are amazing. You can book private parties there and stay overnight to experience real bush living. For a self drive, make sure you have a 4x4 car, otherwise you could damage your small car.

The attractive museum offers a pictorial and video story about how the unique history of Mapungubwe. It's neither a life changing experience nor worldly unique but if you are in the area, it's recommended as a visit.

Not many people will know of the sophisticated culture that existed in this unique area nestled close to the Limpopo and Sashe River confluence, but it is a fascinating insight into a bygone age.The display is very well done in an award winning architectural gem.The approx 15 minute video is also well worth seeing.Pity that many of the best archaelogical artifacts are housed at Pretoria University
