Port Launay was a great beach for swimming in August as the water was very calm. Traveling with a young child is a challenge during this time of the year as most beaches had fairly large waves, rough water, and noticeable currents. At Port Launay we were all able to relax and enjoy swimming in the warm water.
The beach itself is also pleasant with shade available. While other beaches may be great for photos and very strong swimmers this was the best we found on Mahé for a relaxed swim with our daughter.
A takeaway place seems permanently located across from the main parking area so food is readily available.
Compared to many beach areas in Seychelles there is a lot of parking here.

The beach itself is very calm, not too wavy, torques colors the merge with the green coming from the hills, good for snorkeling and swimming, and a wide shoreline.
Plus, Constance Euphelia resort is next to the beach, so you can buy food and drinks if you want to.
The only disadvantage: the beach is not located next to the main road, so getting there is not that easy if you're not staying around.
Beautiful if you're staying around, not a must see if you're not.

We travelled to this beautiful beach by car. No trouble finding parking space. We walked along the public beach. A hotel now blocks most of the access. We laid our towels in the shade of trees on the powder soft sand. Snorkelling in the calm sea was wonderful, though sadly, on this day visibility was poor. I saw plenty of fish, though not many clearly. Sea shoes were not needed here. We saw several White-Tailed Tropic birds. Beautiful,

This beach is absolutely beautiful. Snorkeling is very good to the right past the cross on the Rocks. It's a long swin out there, but well worth it. A good variety of fish, Ells' & even a ray was seen. There is a place to get cold drinks associated with the Ephelia resort. Plenty of free parking is available. A food truck was parked across from the parking area, although we didn't eat there.

We were staying at the Constance Ephelia resort located at this beach. The beach is quite crowded because there are hotel guests as well as locals. The beach is not overcrowded but if you are looking for a quiet place to spend the day there are better beaches around. You can snorkel the reefs in this area for free. And everything you want to see is right here. People will try to sell you excursions for snorkeling which can be quite pricey. A snorkeling trip to one of the next bays will cost you around 75 euros. When we were there they were selling excursions to see sea turtles but the turtles are right here in this bay. Of course it's not the zoo so you have to be lucky. When we went out on a kayak we saw 4 turtles coming up for air. They reside more in the central area of the bay. When I went snorkeling I saw all fish you could imagine, also baby sharks and a sea turtle.

There are so many little gems of beaches around the Island but this one stood out for me . Mainly due to the calmness and secluded area . Also there is a great restaurant onroute .. Really calm water, soft sand, no wind .. just breathtaking

It is a clean, broad, sandy beach. As there are almost no rocks, it is ideal for swimming. As the water is flat, if the sea is calm, it is also suitable for not so good swimmers. The water is a dream and clean. Due to the western orientation, it is also a good place to watch sunsets.

We were on the island for 9 days and trying different beaches to swim and snorkel. The reviews said that this beach was the #1 snorkeling area. The secluded cove is just beautiful. This makes the sea calm and excellent for snorkeling and swimming. There is a big resort facing the beach, but this did not make the beach crowded at all. The area is excellent and we were there for 6 hours (even during 2 hours of rain)

Port Launay is a secluded marine park in a kind of off the beaten track location.
It's very close to Beau Vallon, just over the hill, but to reach it you have to make a big detour over Victoria and the central mountain region. It is ideal to descend to it after making the Copolia trail (read that review) and to relax there.
The beach belongs to Constance Ephelia resort, but you can access it free - we even used their sunbeds with no issues.
The sea is calm with plenty of sea life, ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Apart from many tropic fish, I encountered a sting ray (just be careful not to step on it, as it buries in sand).

When the weather and visibility are poor elsewhere, Port Launay is the place to go. This bay is protected from the waves so it is by far the safest place to be. We swam across the bay and saw barracudas and eagle rays in crystal clear waters. There are corals on the left, right and all around so you don't need to go far like we did. We took the bus from Victoria station. Make sure you board the Port Launay via Sans Soucis bus for a shorter yet more picturesque ride. This place is not to be missed!
