Another Beautiful New York State Park
Oct 2020
This is a very nice state park that offers campsites, picnic areas, clean restrooms and maybe hiking trails. I have only been there for very brief periods of time, to have picnic lunches. I would like to return sometime and explore it more.

beautiful state park

Well maintained state park on the shores of Lake Ontario. We camped here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The drive getting here along the 18 is nice and scenic too. Nice paved roads for biking and dog walking too.

Family friendly ~ Quiet ~ Patrolled by Security

I spent a week here in mid May. The weather was still mostly chilly with being on the Lake.

If you are staying during the week, you will have no easy access to firewood (or anything else) as the camp store is only open on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday and at $6.00 a bundle is ridiculous anyway.

The (2 stalls) showers & bathroom (3 toilets)facilities are cleaned everyday but make sure you bring shower shoes. There are no paper towels. Just an ancient hand dryer blower. The faucet has to be continuous pressed down for water, so make sure to bring a plastic cup to brush your teeth. It’s hard to even wash your hands with this set up! The shower stalls, to be blunt, suck. There are 2 stalls in the section I was in. One has a hand held shower head but there is nowhere to place it above you. Also, this building is NOT heated!!!

The reason I go so in-depth about the bathroom issues is because there are no individual water hook-ups. Just electricity. You can fill your water tank if you have a really long hose but you have to move your camper to do so.

I imagine that when this place gets busy during the warm months, that there are lines for the shower. I don’t understand why the restrooms are so small for such a big place. They really need to upgrade!!!

The sunsets here are wonderful. It was quiet at night and I noticed not only Park Security patrolling but the Sheriffs Dept as well. I also noticed playground areas for the kids and a big recreation hall.

When I visited the camp store they had a popcorn machine with freshly made popcorn, beverages, and other snacks. The cashier was very friendly. There is a laundry building attached to the camp store & it is $2.00 per load for washer & dryer. The washers are extremely small.

It’s miles from any major grocery stores so do your shopping before arrival.

nice views

In the summer, this is a nice place for a lake breeze and to get a good view of the water. In the winter, you can see rough waves and large chunks of floating ice.

Nice park! Clean bathrooms and a helpful staff. Could use more access to the waterfront but overall it's a well planned out park.

Great View of the Lake
Jul 2017 • Family
But only a view! The shore of the lake at this place consists of a bluff, and there's no way to climb down to the actual water; swimming is forbidden in any event. But the front office guy was friendly and helpful, the tent site spacious, the ground flat and soft, and the showers adequate. You'll enjoy it here.

Great Park with all the Amenities of Home
Jul 2015 • Couples
We stayed two days and enjoyed our stay fully, the park is well cared for and the staff was friendly and courteous. The bathrooms were clean and well cared for. This worked to our advantage as we stayed in a tent trailer which had no bath. The camp store was very convenient and stocked everything you might forget to bring from home. Fresh coffee was also a bonus as I was getting tired of instant. We cooked right off the fireplace rather than lugging around a BBQ. I would highly recommend Lakeside Beach to anyone.

Its a great park, I have been visited and camped at this park for nearly 25 years every summer. The workers do not consistently enforce policy park policy. My wife recently dropped off my daughter at her friends site, was told to go right in. I went to pick her up. Susan the person on duty wanted to charge me $6. I asked why I had to pay $6 to drive to a site to pick up my child when my wife wasn't charged to drop her off.Now my daughter was dropped off after 5pm on Friday. I was told by Susan that they don't charge to drop off BEFORE 10am on Friday. I called her on it, told her it was after 5pm. Next I was told that they charge $6 for anyone going in from Friday to Sunday. My wife when she dropped off my daughter was followed by a worker in a truck and harassed. She pulled over at the end of the drive for the site and the worker was yelling and told her she couldn't park there. So as for me returning to Lakeside Beach state park for my annual stay? Not likely!

Recent camping experience

We "tent camped" @ this beautiful spot on Lake Ontario just a couple days ago on one of their "prime sites" i.e. cost a little more because we were on the lake view spot. I was absolutely marvelous/beautiful/very quiet. We were the only campers with a tent & actually cooked over the fire pit :-O Every one else was in a "towed" camper w/electricity! That would have been real nice as the last night we were there came rain & high winds-ugh :-< But we survived & will definitely go back; have been advised to make reservations several months in advance!
