Overview
This private Day Excursion offers the chance to experience something of the Berber way of life as you walk through Berber villages and have lunch with a Berber family in their home. You walk along traditional mule tracks and admire the scenery of the Atlas mountains, including views up towards Toubkal.

Pick up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech around 9.00 for transfer to Imlil stopping on the way to admire the scenery and take photos. We do not stop at stalls or shops which sell local goods unless, of course, you wish us to.

On arrival in Imlil, you are welcomed with mint tea and introduced to your guide. He will discuss with you your interests, the time you have available and your level of fitness. As your Day Excursion is private we can adapt the excursion to some extent to suit you. Typically the Excursion will include 5 to 6 hours walking along mule tracks through small Berber villages, visiting also the Amadan Waterfall.

Ahmed is a truly wonderful person who cares for the people he guides very much. He was unfortunately injured and could not guide us on our trip, but he coordinated everything and was so kind, communicative, and generous with his time nonetheless. Ahmed began years ago as someone who guided the mules up the mountain and worked hard to become a guide. He is very knowledgeable and also down-to-earth. Highly recommend booking with him.

The tour leader Ahmed is really professional and with our guide Brahim, organised a really amazing trek in High Atlas! A driver picked up us in our riad in Marrakech and let us in Imlil. We meet Ahmed and Brahim, our guide French speaking (that was better for us). There was an immediate understanding and sympathy with Brahim. He guided us to the intermediate stage, where we had lunch and then we continued to the Les Mouflons Refuge. The first day we hiked for less than 4 hours and 1400 meters in altitude, on terrain suitable for everyone and never steep. It was nice to meet other travelers and see how the mules and muleteers work. Our stay in refuge was really good: we ate a good dinner and talk a lot with local guides and clients. The day after, we woke up at 4 and ate a very good breakfast. At 5 we started hike to reach the summit!! In april 2022 we found snow from 3000 meters high, you need crampons. If you have not some pieces of equipment, you can rent in Imlil (just say to Ahmed, who provide for everything). At 7.30 in the morning we arrived to the top of Toukbal. There is an amazing view! 😲😍 We take some time for photos and we start our descent. At 10 we were at Les Mouflons, for a little break and for changing clothes then we continued the descent. We ate lunch, a good salad with tajine and some oranges and return to Imlil. We let a deserved tip to Brahim, who was always smiling also in this period of Ramadan. He always answer to our curiosities and he has always been kind and helpful. Really thanks to Trek Atlas agency!!

Ahmed guided my family and I ) including two slightly unwilling early teens) on a long walk in the Imlil valley and was excellent. Ahmed is charming, smart and seemed to know everyone we passed by. He gets the pace right for the group and, as a thoughtful, intelligent man, he is also interesting and good to talk to. I highly recommend his services

The only negative of this trip was the taxi driver. I feel riding a donkey may have been quicker. What should have been a 1h/1h15 min trip was almost 1h45 due to the speed. If he went into a gear higher than 3 it was a miracle. Also, when he picked us up - he decided to stop and speak to everyone he knew delaying the return and ruining what was a lovely day. The tour itself was wonderful - our guide was pleasant and helpful. Took photos of us at the nicest places and tailored the trip to us. 90 min walk - not a problem. 2h walk - not a problem. Whatever we wanted, was fine with him. After the walk, we got the taxi to the Berber Family Lodge. The stairs up to the lodge were actually harder than the whole hike we'd just done. The views from the lunch room were breathtaking and the food was incredibly tasty. Another reason for the 4 star review was when we asked if the starter salad was washed in bottled / clean water - we were told "no - washed in tap water", so we skipped that. The rest of the food was very pleasant and the views were simply stunning. There were toilets there too. In my personal opinion, it was slightly more expensive than it needed to be for the hike and food, but still glad we did it.

We had an amazing 2-days hike to the highest peak of the Atlas mountains. The communication with Ahmed was perfect from the start. He answered all of our questions and helped us get organised for the trip. Our personal guide was not only skillful but also kind, friendly and respectful. He encouraged us all the way to the top and even carried one of our backpacks when we felt too tired to go on. We would not have made it without him. In total we felt very well taken care of all the way. The food was delicious too!
