Come here to feel history. Those round piles of dirt? They were called breastworks, and Continental soldiers draped themselves behind them to gain protection as they shot at approaching British troops. The historic place is the site of a couple battles in the Revolutionary War,...More

We enjoyed several miles of easy hiking Peebles Island State Park at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers recently. Spectacular river and rapids views for walkers -- gently rolling and wooded landscape. There are also a number of very interesting historical markers in...More

This somewhat obscure island park is a little challenging to find but well worth the effort. Don't expect anything like a theme park or lots of commercial activities -- in this park, you make your own activities to suit your pleasure. Older people with limited...More

We love this walk/hike. Great views and not a lot of people. It was spring like so the rivers were raging. Really cool to see.

If you are looking for a quiet spot for a walk while enjoying water views, this is your spot. Not overly crowded on most days, the most difficult part is locating it. There are no side attractions, just nature at her best.

I arrived about 10 a.m. midweek for a walk around the island on the perimeter Trail. I saw not a soul on the entire Island. In the fall the foliage is beautiful overlooking the Mohawk River. The walk was not challenging but worthwhile.

This park is not suitable for those who are unstable.. there are lots of roots and rocks that can easily be tripped over. A quick slip of the foot and one could end up down some steep embankments into the water. If you wouldn't normally...More

For a $6 parking fee, the hikes at Peebles are easy and scenic. There are a few choices, and most afford you great views of the river or canals. There are also picnic tables and a pavilion on site.

On a geocache adventure I was introduced to this fascinating little place. The trails are very easy to maneuver and the sights are gorgeous. I was here on a weekday, so not many people to have to contend with. Lots of time for taking photos...More
