My family has been going to Pennings for over 20 years. I’m sad to say but we will be looking for a new orchard. We’ve watch it change and get bigger over the years but this year has been the worst. It’s Not what it used to be. Donuts used to be hot a fresh , Now they make them a day in advance and are cold and stale. The fresh kettle corn is also gone. They are now prepackaged and over priced for a small bag. The you pick apples are $30 a bag and no apples on the trees. If you want apples you have to pay $50 to use the reserve orchard. Probably an additional charge for the bag to put the apples in as well. At least we have great memories of the way it used to be.

Response from PenningsFarm, Public Relations Manager at Pennings Farm

Hi Stacey. We're sorry to hear about your disappointment, but we would like to clarify a few misconceptions. New this season was the formal introduction of the two separate independently owned and operated apple picking orchards here on Pennings Farm. The orchards have always been independently owned, but this year the orchards are now also independently operated. When referring to the $30 picking activity, this was at the other orchard (Pennings Orchard) which did run out of apples. Here at The Cidery Orchard, which is open on weekdays for walk-in pickers and is open by reservation only on Saturdays and Sundays still has apples...see photos on our Facebook and Instagram pages to see photos taken on October 23. We are planning on remaining open for two more weekends. The Saturday and Sunday reservation is per car and includes bags to pick 2-pecks of apples (that's approximately 24-28 pounds of apples, or 36-40 apples total), allows for up to two hours to stroll through the scenic orchard in the fresh air with wonderful views, guarantees parking on the farm, guarantees entry to Pennings Cidery, guarantees a table at Pennings Cideryfor dining and drinks for weekend reservation holders. The name of our orchard is The Cidery Orchard and is by no means a reserve orchard. In fact, The Cidery Orchard surrounds all of the extra amenities that fall visitors love, including Pennings Farm Cidery, Pennings Farm Market, Beer Garden, Garden Center, Pumpkin Patches, Bakery, Ice Cream Stand, Pub & Grill, and Ice Cream Stand. As for the cider donuts, they are made every single day throughout the fall season...the bakery area was expanded last year in order to be able to keep up with the demand. The demand keeps on growing though so it's important to know that donuts do run out by the end of the day on Saturday and Sunday. Please also know that we now package the donuts because the donut shack where they were often still warm is no longer open due to our choice to eliminate the line due to COVID. We are sorry that you do not find the value in the apple picking experience here at The Cidery Orchard. We hope that you find one of the other wonderful apple orchards in our area to be better suited to you and we wish you a happy Fall season.

Frequent flyer here. Small little food market with a good variety. Need eggs, bread and milk, they have it! Ofcourse with much more. Food to order at the counter. , then find a seat & table. Things ofcourse are running differently with our 2020 guidelines. Food at pennings is very good. You might think at first, a bit expensive for this kind of atmosphere, but the food is very good. It's also a local spot, not just for visitors out of town. Children love the small outdoor play area with the goats and chickens, but as we know, changes this summer/fall. They get very busy this time of year. Sept/Oct apple picking. Good beers on tap too. And ofcourse there is the beer garden behind on the hill.

Penning’s is going a great job with social distancing. You pay for the bag of apples before you enter. The employees are all wearing masks. Cash only so be prepared before you go!

Met at the gate and given instructions on seating and rules. No moving of chairs or tables, food must be purchased to be served cider or beer, seating is limited and you are taken to the table. The Cidery has been our twice a month stop since they opened, it was good to get back, feel a bit of normal, and feel safe. Ciders were as always as crisp as the apple in the orchard surrounding us and they haven't lost their touch with the wood-fired pizza. Thank you for doing it better than anyone.

Animals are not around in the summer. People working here are not super friendly and the place is fairly pricy. The beer garden looks nice for the evening. Ice cream was good.
