Beautiful views, great hiking trails (for all ages), educational, small to large picnic sites, open year round, short drive from Albany and all suburbs. Must see if visiting the Capital District!

I've been to Thacher Park a couple dozen times. Never have I come away disappointed, even when the weather doesn't cooperate. Very good hiking opportunities, outstanding vistas, unique geology for the Capital District, good bird-watching, and tucked away picnic/gathering areas combine to make Thacher Park...More

Great views, magnificent in the fall but just as beautiful all year! Nice summer ride and fantastic place for a picnic. Peaceful and wide open spaces to explore, trails, caves, waterfalls and even kids playgrounds. Pets ok

Most regions have gems, places the locals go to, perhaps not a destination in and of itself, but great for when you have a few hours free. That's Thatcher State Park for me. Located a half hour or so from Albany, the park offers some...More

The trail is about one half mile in length. There are steps on the two ends of the trail that go up and down from the top of the escarpment. A healthy senior should be able to walk the trail as long as they can climb... More
