My husband and I frequently take walking tours when we travel. We've paid nearly this much for tours that DIDN'T include food! We enjoyed each of the stops and sampled things we might not normally have ordered. Everything was good and we were pleased with the portions. We were certainly full by the end of the tour! (I don't want to go into too much detail and ruin the fun for future tourists.) I will say that we like the spicy tomato dipping sauce at Pastabilities so much that we drove immediately to Wegman's to buy some to take home!
Our tour guide was organized, upbeat, and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the history and future of downtown Syracuse and I can honestly say that this tour has made us want to visit this city again in the future. This was a great way to spend an afternoon and I highly recommend this tour!

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. She is a foodie (loves cooking and watching the Food Network) and a history buff, so it was like combining both of her favorite things. Kate, the tour guide, does a great job teaching you about the places you eat and the surrounding area. It was a good dose of history without getting too academic which could be overly boring for some. Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy themselves and have a great time.
She tells you that the goal is to get moderately full while having a good time and learning about the food and the area. This is exactly what she accomplished. I'm only a 5'8" 150 lb man and I got enough food for a lunch. I was no where near stuffed, but I felt like I had eaten enough to hold over until dinner without a problem. The one place that was disappointing was Pastabilities. My wife and I have visited Syracuse a number of times and were looking forward to trying their food, but we were only served bread and their spicy tomato oil there. Not every place was that skimpy on the food (or else I would have been unhappy) and I'm sure that's a big part of what they're famous for, but it was still disappointing for us. Other then that, we enjoyed the rest of the tour. We also visited Kitty Hoynes, Freedom of Espresso, Dinosaur BBQ and Gannon's Ice Cream. I got the feeling that this is the standard tour schedule.
I should also note that we know Syracuse and the area pretty well and we still learned quite a bit and also enjoyed some dishes that we never would have tried otherwise. Overall, I would definitely recommend this as a fun thing to do that will give you a taste of Syracuse.

I've always wanted to get to know downtown Syracuse better. This was a great opportunity to do so, along with learning something of the history of the city and sampling wonderful food at five eateries. Kate is a personable and knowledgeable guide, and we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the entire experience very much.

I would recommend this tour to natives of Syracuse and out-of-towners! The tour was approximately three hours and two miles long. We travelled along parts of Syracuse that I didn't know existed although I am from the area. Kitty Hoynes, Dinosaur BBQ, Gannon's Ice Cream, Freedom of Espresso and Pastabilities were tour stops along with other historic stops along the way. The guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. A must for Syracusians and people from out of town!

We just had to write and say what a wonderful time we had on our food tour! We were taking our daughter to university and it was a fun final day all together for us! We all loved everything we tried, even things we didn't think we would like we ended up loving! Although We all agree the highlight was the Dinosaur BBQ!!! Yummy!!!! Thanks to our great tour guide for incorporating some learning about the area into our TASTY day!! Would definitely recommend this tour! 😊

My husband, my adult son, and I went on the food tour on May 2. We had wonderful weather for the day, and we enjoyed every minute of the three hour tour. We used the parking garage right across the street from the first stop. Our guide (and tour owner) Kate was amazing in her knowledge of and enthusiasm for her home town of Syracuse. Our group of twelve were all given maps at the beginning, and we managed to stay together, even though there was a very popular street festival going on along one section of our walk.
All the food choices were interesting and flavorful, and at each stop, our group was seated at a special reserved table and the food brought out right away. The walk between the restaurants was easy, along mostly level sidewalks, and there was enough time at each stop to relax and recharge.
We were amazed at Kate's explanation of all the plans to revitalize this old section of the city and make it a great destination for locals and tourists alike. The many new apartment buildings and stores and restaurants within an area of a few blocks show how well these plans are working!
We certainly recommend this as a great activity for anyone visiting in the area!

My fiancé planned a day trip for the two of us. We've both been to Syracuse but never really had a chance to explore this area. This tour allowed us to try some local restaurants we'd never been to before while touring the beautiful armory square district and surrounding areas. We also acquired a thorough education on the local history. This was a great experience and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something different to do.

This was a great tour and a delicious meal! Kate is a wonderful tour guide and the 5 restaurant stops were excellent. At each place I tried something I may not have ordered on my own but was very impressed. I have lived in the Syracuse area for over 10 years and yet I learned many new things about the city on the tour. I would highly recommend this for both a local person as well as an out of town visitor. It was a great afternoon!

I loved this tour. Our guide was great! Friendly and informative. She gave us a lot of history about the restaurants and the town. I lived in the Syracuse area most of my life and still learned a lot. The food was excellent and we were given a list of other great restaurants in the area. From now on when I travel I’m going to try to do a food tour my first day so I can find places to try.

Some people have food allergies - for example - I am lactose intolerant and I need foods which don't have spices for my stomach gets uncomfortable if I have spices. Does this tour watch those with food allergies or are "we" are our own? Thanks!

What is the cost and will it be available late March 2018?
Written August 31, 2017
I believe she doesn't start the tours until April due to our weather. March is pretty unpredictable. If you search Syracuse Food Tour and ask a question she will get back to you quickly.

Are the tours appropriate for kids as well? My kids are 7 and 11.
Written July 19, 2017
Hi KB187,
The tour is geared more toward adults and we recommend the tour for those 13 years of age and older. The tour is 3 hours long and because some children have limited attention spans, the tour may not be appropriate for them. Please consider that there is a lot of standing, walking, and listening involved in the tour when deciding whether it is appropriate. Feel free to email if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
Kate
