First time ever that I take a guided bike tour and I had a great time. Of course there are always things that don’t go as planned but I found a great company within the group as I was on my own. Dianne and Ron provided a good combination of taking care of us and independence. The biking trails that we took were amazingly beautiful, paved and with good signalization. Bonus to be biking by the water Fantastic way to get to know closely the Cape Cod/ Martha’s Vineyard area.

Hi C! Thank you for the great review! It was a pleasure having you on our Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard tour, and I agree with you completely, there is no better way to tour the Cape & MV than on a bike. The scenery and the trails are amazing and taking it all in on a bike is the best way to fully enjoy this gorgeous area. I'm so happy that you enjoyed being part of a group tour. We think that an awesome bike tour is only made better when you are sharing the experience with our kindred souls, and we find that cyclists are the very nicest people! I hope we'll get to see you on a future adventure, your friendly nature only adds to a great experience! All the best ~ Diane & Rom

My partner and I were looking for ways to get out and salvage some of the Summer after COVID wiped out our year. We decided on Great American Bike Tours after reading some of the reviews, and made plans to set out from Boston for an amazing week of riding in New England! While i was assured that they had everything under control and safety precautions, it immediately became clear upon meeting Ron and Diane that this wasn't an average bike tour. They adopted some procedures like separating our smaller-than-average group into two vehicles, and suggesting strongly that we wear masks but both of them were soon not wearing them while closely talking to our group. We weren't really given enough space to feel comfortable in transit, and they surprised us when the tour vehicle pulled up plastered with many Anti-Trump bumper stickers, which seemed extremely unprofessional. It's okay to have political disagreements, but we signed up for the tour to get away from everything for a while! As a result of some ongoing tension, we at one point looked for a nearby Coach station in case we needed to bail early. Tour support: It was hot at first (to be expected), but their shorthanded staff was too busy wrangling vehicles to tend to things like proper water / food breaks, and at one point on the first day even abandoned the group completely. (And unreachable by phone) Accommodation: I don't understand with the limited tourism demand this year especially, why they cheaped out on our accommodation. Location was central and grounds were pleasant enough, but the rooms themselves were horribly outdated. (Think 80s motel) and not what you'd expect from what was marketed as an all-inclusive tour. I never really got the impression at any point that they had it fully together. It seemed like things were semi-planned, and that we were always rushing to keep up. Shouting directions was not helpful and brought undue stress. I would have thought with several months extra to prepare this year, that they would have everything together. The inexperience showed. Bikes: They were in decent shape, but Ron didn't really have a plan, with spare tools and extra bikes in short supply. The trailer and truck in tow could have carried both of these things and we were far below the typical tour volume, so I'm not sure what why corners were cut. In all, the scenery and riding was nice, but the accommodation and tour support (what we were really paying for) fell short. Some of the routes were far from scenic, so I'm not sure how much actual riding they did before the tour. In conclusion, we finished a little sore and sunburned. Felt like we were oversold and underdelivered. I understand there is effort and skill in putting these big trips together, but our advice is to walk before you run, and to actually take COVID-19 seriously.

This bike trip across New York state was the highlight of my fall...Diane and Ron are superb guides, giving interesting background on things to see and do, great little places to stop for lunch, and advice that prepared us for each day's stretch of trail. Upstate New York is full of surprises! Art museums, historic forts, sweet towns, waterfalls, apple orchards. Coming from the west coast, I really appreciated the time built into the daily schedule to enjoy many of these unique sights. I also appreciated how well Diane and Ron dealt with a few of the minor inconveniences--rain, power outages-- that can occur over a 10-day trip, by changing a starting time or throwing an impromptu happy hour. Tho far from the fastest rider, I felt encouraged and supported by everyone on the trip. My bike was comfortable, and I liked knowing that maintenance was available if I needed it. The accommodations were good to excellent. I look forward to traveling with this company again.
