The SI Zoo is a great local park zoo for small children for a day trip. There really isn't enough to do for a full day, but for a morning or afternoon separated by lunch or with a picnic...it's very enjoyable. There is a carousel that is only $3 which is cute too, and inexpensive enough to ride twice. Try to schedule going when the zoo has an interactive event ...which will make it more fun for the kids for sure

This is Bruce the zoo guy doing a review of the Staten Island Zoo in New York. This is a small to smaller medium-sized Zoo. There are none of the big animals here like elephants giraffes rhinos hippos or anything like that. There are quite a few though of the medium size the smaller animals as well as Birds. The zoo could use some attention to keeping it clean. Most of the enclosures here look like they do the minimal amount to get accredited as a zoo. They need to pay more attention to detail and get these things clean and more animal friendly. Even the paths in all the foliage was quite a mess. Did like the main building which is kind of a rainforest atmosphere that had some monkeys and fish in other animals. Other than that was not very satisfied. And parking here is a joke.

You can tour this zoo between 2-3 hours with animals from many parts of the world ,, from leopards to bald eagles. It holds one of the largest collections of snakes in the u.s.
also a very nice petting zoo with plenty of up close feeding for kids of all ages.
located in the center of the zoo is a large carousel which instead of horses has an assortment of zoo animals for the kids to ride on... a souvenir and snack shop are also
available....I take my grandkids here at least 2-3 times a year...

Though this zoo is much smaller than Bronx Zoo, they do a lot with what they have. The animals seem happy and active. They have some great habitat designs for smaller animals that are a joy to watch. The staff is super friendly and they seem to really care about what they do. I usually find zoos a little depressing, but this one always has a fun, welcoming vibe. Great for kids or a date. I also love that they have chickens and peacocks roaming freely.

I came out for the Groundhog's Festival again this year and it was a nice day. The ceremony was much quicker than last year as it was Super Bowl Sunday still it was a nice morning.

It was much nicer this year as the weather was warmer and all the animal were out after the ceremony was over. I got to see most of the outdoor animals like the Eru's, Kangaroos and Ostriches this time around.

Don't miss visiting the gift shop/snack shop when at the zoo. There is a nice selection of foods that are great for kids. I also got one of the stuffed Staten Island Chuck's from the gift shop and it was really cute.

It is a nice way to spend the afternoon. Take time to see all the indoor displays as well. There is a interesting exhibition of snakes and monkeys to see and even a small aquarium.

It is fun to walk around the zoo.

Free parking, low admission cost, well-kept grounds with beutiful flowers. informative displays and a cafe with truly inexpensive prices! Docents were providing activities for children and answering guests questions. We all had a most pleasnt 3 hours here-lots of benches too for taking breaks

This has to be the worst zoo I have ever been to. The animals in kept is smelly, cramped housing. The urine smell burned my eyes and it is not even late spring yet. The ducks were swimming in filthy water, there was garbage littered throughout the zoo, the cafe area has tables littered with crumbs and were sticky like fly paper. The petting zoo area was out of sanitizer and the washing sick was disgusting. The sand play area was full of rusty play trucks and broken plastic play items. I understand this is a small zoo, but the conditions there shows the indifference the care takers have. The little ponies to rise were obese. These poor animals deserve much better care. The bathrooms were grimy and had tissue paper all over the floors. I would give this place zero stars if there was an option.

We took my 2 year old grand son to the zoo he loved feeding and petting the animals. For a 2 yr old who can't see what an adult sees it's fine and dandy but I was less than enthused. The animals looked dirty and neglected and some cages and pens were too small. All in all it's a disgrace the animals have no quality of life. This place needs a loving hand.

I've been taking my son montly to the SI Zoo for the last year. In response to the other post, I've never seen a sick animal there, not once. The zoo is clean, staff is on hand interacting with either the animals or the visitors and they always have various actiivies for the holidays.

Yes, it is a small zoo that could be done in an hour, but it's a nice time out and very affordable, especially since it is free after 2pm.

The zoo is very small. Cettain animals should not be allowed in a zoo this size. It was very said to see certain cats in such a small inclosure. I will not visit this facility again i will not support such a establishment. These animals are not even allowed to see sunlight. They are inside the building.
