Time of year
Great little place to visit. Chances are you may have the place all to yourself if you visit in September. Quiet solitude and peaceful place to sit for a while and listen to the waves or read a book. Very scenic.
This is one of the nicest little beaches in Upstate NY. What other beach has sand, playground, shelter house, bathrooms, snack shop, life guards, Coast Guard and Sherrif's office within a 100 yd radius? The beach is clean and safe. What more could you ask for?

This is a nice public beach with scenic views of Lake Ontario that is free to enter and costs nothing to park at. There are bathrooms, an outdoor shower, pavillion, playground, and benches under trees. There were no life guards on duty when we went. There is also a fishing pier.
We walked out to the lighthouse and took a brief walk down the beach. The sand was heavily littered with cigarette butts. The bathroom was locked. We didn't stay long.
