    Informative but not scary
I took a ghost tour of the cemetary from 8:30-10:30pm. Our guide, John, had worked at the cemetary for 10 years and was a resident of Sleepy Hollow his entire 63 years so he knew a lot about the cemetary and the area's history. It was a nice touch to have kerosene lanterns to walk around. The stories were informative but this was not a ghost tour as much as a cemetary tour at night.

    Historical figures galore
If you’re looking for a beautiful place to walk around and take in history, look no further. We stopped by on a roadtrip and I’m so glad we braved the crowds for it. The cemetery itself is filled with some truly great historical figures, and coupled with the lore of Sleepy Hollow, this is one downright interesting and unmissable place to visit. Even my 4yo loved the experience and asked lots of questions about headstones and dying. Our favorite grave was Hulda of Bohemia.

Wonderful lantern tour of this historic cemetary.
We went on a nightime Lantern tour of this historic Cemetary. Very informative, great stories regarding the Cemetary, how it was founded, Historic people who are resting there eternally and walking through in the darkness with only lantern for illumination added to the vibe. As an FYI this isn't a "Scary, spooky, creepy" experience. VERY respectful to the grounds and the people who chose to have their mortal remains layed to rest here.

    Halloween Weekend 2023
I had an absolute blast! This was a bucket list trip for me for a long time. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, the autumn colors were brilliant, and for as many people that were at the cemetery, it didn’t feel over crowded. Plenty to see and explore. Will definitely come back here again! I thought it was going to be too crowded with it being right before Halloween, but it was just right in my opinion.

    Historic & Gorgeous
A gorgeous and expansive cemetary located close to central Sleepy Hollow. Step in to witness history and elaborate tombs in a giant well nutured park setting. Grab a map (at main, not south, entrance) to see the famous locales or just tour around to see all the fascinated lifes lived and memorial headstones. Thankfully streets are marked and driving is permitted. We toured on Halloween weekend and not too crowded. Be prepared for a lot of walking but gorgeous in the fall sun. A night toou would also be amazing (with stable walking shoes).

    Gorgeous grounds and great folklore!
The cemetery is beautiful! Lot's of history and stunning grounds. A beautiful place any time of year to visit. Great for a stroll, site seeing, walking your dog, or just to sit and be with nature. The cemetery staff host tours around the legend of the Headless Horseman year round. Check the website for details.

    Intriguing....
This is a fascinating cemetery to explore. A map is a definite plus; in that the size of the venue, and windingness of the roads, can easily bring one to some confusion as to their location. The tombstones, masuliums, statues, carvings and monuments are historically and aesthetically engaging. And there is a natural beauty and serenity to the landscape; that wonderfully compliments the solemnity of the area. (We could only imagine the impact autumn has on the surroundings.) One could spend many hours/days exploring this intriguing complex; and we hope to again return and spend more time wandering the grounds.

My group of four took a tour of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery on October 31, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. It was "The Original Knickerbocker: Washington Irving & The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and our amusing tour guide, who has a wealth of knowledge about the cemetery. Beautiful grounds that you are free to roam after the tour.

Beautiful cemetery to drive through and walk around. The tombstones and mausoleums are pieces of artwork. We took a map and visited famous sites and also walked around and read tombstones of others who lay there. Well with a visit!

I've been wanting to do this tour for a few years now, and finally booked far enough in advance to do it Halloween weekend. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but myself and group of 7 friends were pleasantly surprised. Parking and check in were smooth, and our tour guide was engaging, fun, quirky, and she had a treasure trove of information about the cemetery. We definitely want to go back during daylight hours and explore the cemetery some more.

Everything was fun, maybe it's because my kids watched "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" a million times, and the weather was gorgeous. We saw Washington Irving's grave, bought souvenirs at a big canvas tent. Then we walked to the bridge where safety could be had! Lot of old grave site mostly 18th and 19th century.

This was originally called the Tarrytown Cemetery but upon the request of Washington Irving, it was changed to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

The list of notable people and families that chose this site for their final resting place is a whos who of societies most influential business people and philanthropists.

Besides Irving, other famous last names you'll recognize include Carnegie, Rockefeller, Arden, Astor, Hamilton (yes, THAT Hamilton's kids) Chrysler, and Helmsley.

A gorgeous setting and lovely walk. We didn’t, honestly, realize the historic figures we’d pass, so that was a pleasant surprise. We did expect to see names from Washington Irving’s story, and that was well-rewarded from the start. The cemetery itself lends a nice backdrop to the story, which I’ll never forget. We made the trek to the Horseman’s bridge (not original) and were surprised to see it was so different from what was in our imaginations. The church on grounds was extraordinarily beautiful. I also really like the balance of referencing the story, but not overly capitalizing on it - if that makes sense. Highly recommend a visit.
