Rescued farm animals indeed have a sanctuary here in the Catskills. The facility is immaculately clean and run by a team of passionate animal protectors and carers. It is quite a large 'farm' and guests need to book and be part of a tour to learn about the animals and why they are residents here. Our guide, Lauren was lovely and clearly very knowledgeable and passionate. Her tour was a little bit too long for our 2 year old and we had to leave after an hour and 15 minutes. As it was intended as a tour for 4 years and under, it may be best to shorten the explanations at each stop. This in no way spoiled our visit. We enjoyed roaming around with Lauren and meeting the animals - all with a name and a history. The spacious rustic setting is very picturesque.

We had a wonderful tour of the sanctuary led by our guide Wendy. We saw chickens, turkeys, geese, pigs, sheep, horses, goats and cows and were able to interact and pet with a number of the animals. Jasmine the pig laid down for a belly rub, we petted Imogen the turkey and cows Darwin and Rudy. They animals are respected and well cared for and the grounds are beautiful. Wheelchair access: The path was quite flat, and somewhat rocky but able to traverse it with my manual wheelchair. With some help from the people I was with I was able to get into almost all the animal enclosures we visited, except where the chickens were (the door would not open wide enough). I was able to get into the cow pasture. Note that some of the animal enclosures had one step to get in/uneven terrain and I accessed them with assistance from the people I came with. There was an accessible port-a-potty but I did not use it. Welcome hut and store are accessible. It was dry weather that day so my tires did not get very muddy. I brought wipes just in case.

My girlfriend and I visited the sanctuary today and we had a great time. Our guide, Kaden did a tremendous job of bringing us around the farm to meet all the animals, describe their various situations and give us information about the different species. It's really a terrific way to spend a few hours, get some fresh air and learn a few things.
On a side note, I'd like to address comments in some of the reviews I've read about so called " vegan lectures." We experienced no such thing. What we did learn is that all these animals, big and small have feelings, quirks and characteristics much the same as people. If that's something you can't handle for some reason? Your problem.

Anyway, fantastic day! Thanks CAS!

This farmed animal sanctuary exemplifies their motto "Love Spoken Here" - each animal is known as an individual and is loved and cared for. It was especially beautiful to see family groups of animals able to remain together for life, when usually as farmed animals their families would be torn apart. This is a great opportunity to see the incredible personalities of cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, goats - very much like our beloved pet cats and dogs.

The Catskill Animal Sanctuary is a great place to visit if you love Farm Animals. This is a beautiful farm for abused animals that are lovingly taken care of. They clearly state that they encourage a vegan lifestyle, but at no time did they preach to you. Not for toddlers? Why not? I will be bringing my granddaughter there next week. Lambs, Goats, Pigs and Roosters were walking about the grounds like they lived there; that's right, they do live there, so you are expected to follow some simple rules. They don't allow any food on the grounds. They ask you to leave it in the car. The work that is being done there is compassionate and loving. I became a member and plan to volunteer some of my time. It's exactly what the website says it is, times 10. I met Tucker, a 3,000 lb. cow. When he slapped me in the face with his 2 foot tongue, they said he liked me. This day was far better than a zoo that you see animals from 100 feet away. Take the tour!!! Donate $40 and become an annual member to visit all year long.

Visited with a friend and did the $20 day pass pp plus a special “behind the scenes” tour ($8 pp) and it was totally worth it. We spent about an hour and a half wandering on our own before the actual tour. The tour was conducted by the Director and was a full 2 hours long. Questions are encouraged and we learned the story of most of the animals there. There were lots of opportunities to interact with and touch the animals. This is a wonderful place which provides a safe and peaceful home for so many rescued farm animals. The animals are so loved and respected and that is so obvious in every interaction.

Family
I had been wanting to take my family to an animal sanctuary for a few years. So glad I finally booked a two night stay at the Homestead at Catskill Animal Sanctuary. We stayed in the Samson Suite, which was ideal for a family of 4. We loved the cute farmhouse, the comfortable living room and the great, open kitchen where we enjoyed breakfast at the large wooden table with our fellow visitors. The vegan breakfasts (French toast one day and waffles the other, both with fruit, coffee, juice and vegan sausage) were great! What a relaxing way to start the day, by simply walking downstairs to eat.

The homestead managers, Alex and Linda, were both super welcoming and friendly. After exploring on our own for a few hours, we were lucky enough to get a private tour of the sanctuary on a Monday (bargain, for only $40 for the 4 of us) with Lauren. She was so knowledgeable and friendly and took us in the barns and pastures to meet, pet and feed the animals. It was the highlight of our stay!

My girls (11 and 13) have been vegetarian since birth and vegan for the last 8 years and this trip made them especially happy that they are vegan. They both got t-shirts as souvenirs, that they will wear proudly.

My husband has been 95% vegan along with us the last 8 years -- only eating meat or cheese out of the house. But this trip and getting to meet the animals was a profound experience for him. He said he simply can not eat meat or cheese any more.

Thank you, Catskill Animal Sanctuary for a wonderful visit and for all that you do! We all want to visit again soon.
