We came here for the rail bikes, and arrived a couple hours ahead of our scheduled time. There are a lot of closed stores and not much to do. This town has definitely peaked many, many years ago. Very sad.

Don't miss the Community Store, stopping by the Library to see an amazing collection of stuffed animals of the Adirondacks (yes, this sounds odd but should not be missed). This is a very walkable town with many quality art galleries, craft shops, and unique shopping experiences (eco fibers as an example). Clean, colorful and welcoming town for all. Great exploring without... More

The lake is really more of a wide place in a dam'd up river, but the town is a nice, easy going place and it is surrounded by outrageous outdoor beauty.

If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Lake Placid, this place is only a few miles away and is much less crowded.

We stayed at a motel on the lake. It is quiet, beautiful, with canoe rentals offered in various places. A very quaint area close to Lake Placid and away from the traffic and crowds.

We booked a campsite on an island on Middle Saranac Lake. This was our first time camping in the Adirondacks, and the first time camping at a location that was only accessible by boat. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we absolutely plan to return many times. The seclusion of the private island campsite was a wonderful break from... More

For over a hundred years now, Saranac has been a destination. A beautiful village on an even prettier lake. A real jewel. Can be crowded, of course, on summer days. But nothing like some of the larger places. In the Fall, on the right mid-week day, it's a treasure.

This is our 4th time to the area and we totally love it. On our 4th visit to the area we are currently looking to buy a home in the area. The Adirondacks is amazing and this area in particular really is great.
