Historic Sites in the Mohawk Valley
Sep 2018 • Family
I recommend a visit to Fort Klock, especially during one of their events. Plan on an hour or less to tour here, unless there is an event. There could be a skirmish reenactment, colonial cooking, or other demonstrations to keep you busy for a few hours. Just down the road are the historic Nellis Tavern, Palatine Church, and the Indian Castle Church. Herkimer Homestead State Historic Site is a few minutes drive from Fort Klock. With some planning and timing, you may be able to visit these sites in one full day.

Craft fair
Sep 2018 • Family
Visited here for their annual craft fair. Saw that the fort was open for tours and had to go in. I really enjoy history and learning about local history is very interesting to me. The fort really looks as if it were back in time.

Fortified Farmhouse from Colonial Days
Sep 2017 • Family
What a place to visit for history buffs. This farmhouse was built before the American Revolution along the Mohawk river. Its walls are two feet thick with gun ports. Most of the area during the revolution was fighting between the loyalist (to England) and the patriots. On display are many artifacts of the era. Also there is a Blacksmith Shop, a Schoolhouse, and a Dutch Barn. Great visit for American Revolution or area history. The tour is only $3 per person.

Great Fortified Farmhouse for Early American History Buffs
Oct 2016 • Solo
I was fortunate to be in the area when a Revolutionary War Reenactment was planned at Fort Klock. The reenactors were wonderful (I love to attend these events and this group was one of the best I have seen)! The fortified house made for a very interesting tour and so much of the property is original. Quite impressive and I am so glad I took the time for a visit. A great way to spend an afternoon in the Mohawk Valley.

Summer Arts Festival
Sep 2016 • Friends
As a descendent of the Johannes Klock I visited here regularly over the years. Generally this is a great experience for the history buff as it is a restoration project and those involved and/or Klock descendents are delighted to talk about it and the role it played in the Revolutionary War. All that being said, I want to mention the summer arts festival in particular. It is held yearly, on the grounds, the second weekend of September. There is no admission fee. There is lots of free parking - some roadside and the majority off road in the field. The field is groomed as are the grounds where the vendors are located. Just be aware that attendees walk in short grass and there may be some uneven ground as well. There is designated handicapped parking but it is not paved. There are paths in the vendor area and near the buildings. I did notice a couple of people using walkers and at least one using a wheelchair. I believe there were around 100 vendors in attendance this year (2016). The Amish folks living in the area also participate on Saturday. The items for sale are widely varied and run from inexpensive to more costly. Most of the vendors are also the items' makers so are delighted to answer all manner of questions.Lunch is also available. PortaPotties abound. It is really a lovely event and anyone needing to travel a fair distance to attend will not be disappointed.

NOTE: On route 5 a couple miles east of the village of St.Johnsville.

American Revolution Home and Guided Tour. Great for History buffs.
Aug 2016 • Couples
Our guide Dave Klock, is a descendant of the original Klock family. He gave us a thorough and very interesting talk about the home, family, artifacts and current status of the site. We got a real feel for the life of the family during other American Revolutionary War. The house is a wonderful museum. The admission fee is very reasonable.

Fascinating local history!
Jul 2016 • Couples
The history of this fortified home in the Mohawk Valley is not to be missed! Extra special that our guide was a decedent of the original owners. Good for young and old alike. Amazing that this structure is still standing and so well taken care of. Particularly fascinating is the loopholes found throughout the house, and the account of the home being attacked.

Great Historic Restoration!
Jun 2016 • Friends
This was such a great place to visit and the guide was first rate! He is a descendant of the people who built the fortified house back in 1750!! He was so proud of his heritage that he made the history of the building and the family most interesting. Many things are explained in detail and how all of this related to Mohawk Valley Colonial History. There was also a discussion on transportation and the various battles of the French and Indian War as well as the War for Independence. I would highly recommend this restoration to all who love history and historic preservation.

Nice restoration
Jun 2016 • Friends
Staff was in period attire, and had good knowledge of the artifacts and history of the site. There are several buildings to explore and a nice little gift shop. Well worth a visit if you like Mohawk Valley Revolutionary War history.

Pre-Revolutionary Fortified House
May 2016 • Couples
Very interesting restoration of a fortified house from the time when St Johnsville was on the frontier.... built 25 years before the American Revolution. The fort was the site of a battle during the Revolutionary War and it's easy to imagine weapons pointed at soldiers from the gun ports. The Fort complex includes a barn, a schoolhouse, and a blacksmith shop. A living museum staffed by folks in period dress.
