About
The Nassau County Museum of Art (NCMA) is located 20 miles east of New York City on the former Frick Estate, Clayton, a 145-acre property in Roslyn Harbor in the heart of Long Island’s Gold Coast. The museum's Mansion, named in honor of art collectors and philanthropists Arnold A. Saltzman and his wife Joan, is a three-story Georgian-style mansion that exemplifies Gold Coast architecture of the late 19th century. In addition to the Mansion, NCMA, which receives nearly 200,000 visitors each year, includes The Manes Family Art & Education Center, opened in 2017, as well as a Sculpture Park, a Formal Garden, rare specimen trees and marked walking trails. NCMA annually presents major rotating exhibitions, many of which are original to the museum and are organized by the museum’s own curatorial staff. NCMA's 145 acres hold one of the largest publicly accessible sculpture gardens on the East Coast. Nearly 40 sculptures are sited on the property to interact with the natural environment.

Greg & Kat’s Nassau County Museum Of Art Experience.
May 2020 • Couples
In the Fall Of 2017, I brought and treated my fiancé, Kathy (she’s now my wife) for a visit and self guided tour of the Nassau County Museum Of Art.

Both my wife and I entered and toured the main museum building and were deeply mesmerized by the museum’s extensive exhibits and collections, and visually engaging artwork. We also learned that the main museum building was once the home of Child Frick, a prominent member of the Frick family and son of Henry Clay Frick, cofounder or US Steel.

In addition to visiting the museum, my wife and I enjoyed sightseeing and taking pictures of the site’s magnificent formal gardens and also viewing the well crafted sculptures of Sculpture Park!!!

When staying in Long Island, both Kat and I highly recommend for everyone to visit and explore this absolutely wonderful attraction!!!We very much enjoyed our time and experience at the Nassau County Museum Of Art and so would you!!!

The colors of the sunset is beautiful. My family and I love walking trails. The trails here are beautiful but need to be maintained for safety reasons.

Small gem on exquisite grounds
Jul 2020
This is a smallish museum located on outsized grounds. The museum is quite good, housed in a beautiful mansion. We saw the exhibit 'Blue' and were mesmerized by the different physical and philosophical aspects of the curated show. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Just about everyone was wearing a mask inside, and we felt proper precautions were being taken. Afterward we strolled around the grounds seeing sculpture, follies, water areas and magnificent trees. Worth the trip :)

Lovely small museum
Feb 2020 • Friends
My mom, sister and I were here this past weekend. The exhibit was small, the museum/house must have been lovely and the grounds were beautiful with sculptures all around. The building is handicap accessible but unfortunately for my mom the elevator was out of service so we couldn’t take her wheelchair up to the 2nd floor.

Houses some really Fine paintings
Nov 2019
This museum can be a good option to visit over the weekend. It houses some really beautiful paintings from this decade and the last decade. Also, there is some fantastic work from Norman Rockwell. Beautiful illustrative designs, varied color palette, and great detailing. Very decent collection and a lot of learning. It can be really a good option to take kids for a weekend outing. There is also a sculpture garden in the park which has couple of metal structures.

Perfect Sunday Visit Museum
Jul 2019
If you are looking for a Sunday excursion with friends and family, the Nassau County Museum of Art (NCMA) is perfect in that there is something for everyone. NCMA has a new exhibit every 2 months-about six a year, that draw from the Museum's collection. We recently saw Energy: The Power of Art and That Eighties Show. Both were assessible to all ages and they provide for children with an activity board for finding objects throughout the exhibit. The 145 acres are great for exploring-the sculpture throughout is top notch and includes pieces by Richard Serra, Fernando Botero and a new installatin by Marko Remec. If you can't make the trip to Storm King and want to see outdoor sculpture it's a great place to go. The formal gardens are also nice and there are hiking paths that are accessible. The Manes Center provides family art programs on Sundays and is great place to go to on your way out from the Museum. There are no dining options at the Museum with the exception of a vending machine, so either bring a picnic or plan to go to Roslyn which is about 5 miles away and there are many dining options.

The sculpture garden is excellent!!! The exhibit we saw (I think about color in art) was very good. This little place is a winner. It's also gorgeous inside and out. It's a great part of the LI art scene.

Not the Metropolitan, but then the Met doesn't sit on 145 beautiful acres either...

Beautiful setting for an interesting museum that features some very good art. Depending on the current exhibit, you may find some real art treasures and some that are not so inspiring, but the tranquil setting is a gem here in Nassau County. I have found wonderful paintings, sculptures and photographs on exhibit over the years. Became a member last year since I am only about a fifteen minute bicycle ride from the grounds. Beautifully landscaped grounds that are a pleasure to walk around on any time of the year with outdoor sculptures on display in fields, ponds and meadows. They have programs for adults like "sketching in the galleries" where an art teacher helps her pupils with their drawing skills. There are numerous painting and drawing classes as well for the general public that will help you with your art talents. True, as stated by some reviewers, this museum does not feature the classic world renown works by the Masters but does have a smattering of very good pieces by some well known national and international artists like Fernando Botero, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Serra, Tom Otterness and Andy Warhol . The friendly staff is always welcoming and the resident docents give very informative lectures on the various exhibits as well as the architecture of the early 1900's mansion that serves as the main museum structure. Lovely way to spend an afternoon in the galleries and grounds.

Wonderful Art Treasure in Long Island
Feb 2019 • Couples
I recently saw The Animal Kingdom Exhibit. Lovely setting and a pleasant afternoon with my husband, The paintings and sculptures truly captured the theme of the animal world. The Sculpture Garden is very relaxing and a great way to gather your thoughts.
