I watched Hamilton last night with my wife. The theater is clean, the staff is amazing, and the view is great. The seats are so horrible I will never come here again for a 3 hour show. After paying over $300 for two tickets I was in so much pain I couldn’t even enjoy the show. Just fyi I’m 5’ 11” 160lbs and I’m young and an athlete. With me sitting up straight and my back against the seat, I couldn’t put my left foot on the floor. My knee was hitting the back of the seat in front of me and it forced me to stand on my tiptoes. The seats are literally the worst I’ve ever experienced. I found myself hurting so bad that I wasn’t even enjoying the show. I even considered leaving at intermission. I can’t imagine sitting here if you were larger than me. If you come here to watch a show that’s 1 hour long then maybe it’s ok. But to spend a lot of money to come for a longer show then no, don’t waste your time and money.

My husband bought tickets online for later this April at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre and was surprised by a $114 per ticket "service charge" that was not announced at all. Beware. I'm not sure if calling the box office would have a different result, but: BEWARE!

Please note that Ticketmaster.com and The Auditorium Theatre Box Office are the only official and authorized sellers of RBTL's Auditorium Theatre event tickets in Rochester. Tickets purchased from other sources may be more expensive, invalid, or ineligible for assistance. The online fees set by Ticketmaster typically range from $10-$14 per ticket and there are no additional service fees when purchasing in person at the box office. We hope you enjoyed your performance despite the fees you paid through your ticketing site and hope you'll return to the Auditorium in the future.

After seeing Phantom of the opera there and loving it more than the NYC version, we decided to see The Book of Mormon at this theater. The theater is beautiful, just looking at the architecture is worth going. I went with a broken foot and they were very accommodating. I sat in the mi- orch and side-orch sections, both had great views so you cant go wrong with any seat.

I've been to quite a few shows here over the years, and have never had a bad seat! We sat in pretty much the last row in the balcony for a Jeff Dunham show a few years ago, and they were still decent! The lobby gets packed to ridiculous levels before / after the show and intermission; a lot of people trying to get to the bathrooms or concessions or merchandise. Like to the point I'm surprised the Fire Department hasn't been called...the concessions are inexpensive, the bathrooms are clean, the ushers know where they're going, and the building itself is beautiful. Parking, however, is not free. A few businesses next door will cram as many cars in as they can at $5-10 a vehicle; my advice is to park at Village Gate and walk the 3 blocks; it's free, well lit, and there are a quite a few dining options there before or after the show.

The Auditorium Theater on Main Street in Rochester, NY is a large, but not particularly grand, theater. From the outside, the building looks like a former high school, and indeed may have once been one. I understand that the seating has gone through a transformation recently. But you wouldn't know it by sitting in the theater. The seats are uniformly cramped with little leg room and even less hip room. I don't understand why suburban movie theaters charging $!0 a film can have superb wide cushioned seats that have plenty of leg room, and the Auditorium Theater which charges $60 a show cannot.

However, I have seen a couple of plays there recently, and Ghost: The Musical was a truly excellent musical play. The original score, the book, the singing, special visual effects, and the acting were all perfect!

This theatre is lovely and there really isn't a bad seat in the house for viewing. My only real complaint is that the seats are very tight, not alot of room to get past someone else and very little elbow room.

This October we saw Mary Poppins. The snack lines get long- but they move quickly. We had a great view on the lower "orchestra" level.

I recently saw the Blue Man Group at the Auditorium - the most recent of many visits. People complain about the auditorium, and yes, it has its drawbacks. The seats are crowded and therefore legroom is at a premium. The acoustics are average. I've never had any trouble hearing anything that was happening on the stage, whether it be theater or music. Contrary to what some say, parking is just fine. There are private lots that supplement the on-site parking for a small fee. I've never had to walk more than a block to get to the theater (As someone who spent years in New York City, Rochesterians don't know how good they have it).

But what really makes the Auditorium experience so delightful is the atmosphere of this lovely old theater, and the sense of history. I wish the philistines who advocate its abandonment would recognize that. Rather than spending millions to build another sterile glass and steel building in the suburbs, why not put some money into upgrading the current location?

The seats are very uncomfortable, parking is minimal and hearing is very difficult. Every year, during subscriber time, they make a big deal that they are looking for another venue which will be so much better. Every year nothing changes. We used to be a series subscriber but got tired of the games and told them we would be back WHEN they actually moved into a better venue. However, the shows they bring to the Theatre are usually good to great. Most of them are former Broadway shows using touring companies. Sometimes it appears, from the young ages of the performers, that they recruit directly out of acting colleges.
