About
As one of the world’s premier music schools, the Eastman School of Music has been enriching the musical life of Rochester since 1921. Today, the School presents more than 700 concerts a year in the magnificent Eastman Theatre, intimate Kilbourn Hall, and the modern Hatch Recital Hall – providing the Rochester community with an exceptional opportunity to experience world-class music in a world-class setting. The School’s rich and diverse concert season features prominent guest artists, our own acclaimed faculty, and our incredibly talented students and ensembles. No matter what type of music you prefer, you’re certain to hear it at Eastman: Classical, jazz, and opera. Symphonic and chamber music. Early music, new music, world music – there is something for everyone! The general public is welcome at all Eastman concerts and performances. Remarkably, most concerts are free; those that are not are modestly priced.

Elegant, classic and accessible

This is a delightful venue for musical performances of all kinds. There is a main theatre and some smaller ones in the same building. The city cleaned up the neighborhood years ago so it's pretty safe. The only challenge is parking, but we've always managed to find a spot on the street within two blocks. The music school sometimes holds free events, and there are elegant restaurants nearby, so the area is really a great cultural resource.

AMAZING theatre venue

Gorgeous architecture and historical building for hosting musical venues. Adjacent to the EASTMAN SCHOOL of MUSIC, newly revitalized city center. Lots of bars and restaurants very short walking distance. Especially a fun place to visit for the annual Jazz Festival. FUN FUN FUN

Feels like you're back in the 1600's performing an opera in front of 2000 people. What a Majestic Theatre, a visual treat to just go and take a walk inside. A dream stage for every artist to perform. Loved every bit of it.

For Rochesterians, it is a must see/do
Jan 2019 • Family
At least once a year, we attend a performance in Kodak Hall. World renown artists make a point of performing here. And our own RPO is superlative, with many musicians having attended the Uni. of Roc Eastman School of Music. There is no bad seat in the place. The acoustics are par excellence. But there is more to the Eastman Theatre than Kodak Hall. The Hatch Auditorium is a smaller version of the Kodak Hall. Again, perfect for watching and hearing performances. The common areas within the Eastman Theatre have excellent art displays, lounging areas, and a quaint refreshment area. The entire place is impeccable. Not just for Rochesterians, the Eastman Theatre is a must see/do for all - visitors and tourists included.

Spectacular Grand Theatre Right Downtown
Oct 2018 • Couples
We have been going to the Eastman Theatre for almost thirty years. We have seen the Pittsburgh City Ballet, Rochester City Ballet, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and this past summer during the annual jazz festival the legendary Seal. We were visited a week ago to see the RPO again, this time performing Broadway Favorites and for the first time ever sat in the Loge. We have been in the front row before and spread across the lower half of the theatre but never up top; it was as grand an experience as all the other spots. If you are looking to see quality entertainment in Rochester the Eastman Theatre has a wide variety of offerings and you will truly enjoy your experience in one of our city's greatest treasures.

Been here many times in my life
Jun 2018 • Couples
I grew up in Rochester so I've seen many concerts at the Eastman and my high school graduation was here too so I actually can say I've been on stage (once in my life at least). It is a beautiful building from the architecture to the frescos on the wall to the giant crystal chandelier. Several years ago, they renovated the theater to improve the acoustics and even removed seating in order to do it right. The acoustics are fantastic now! Even though we did see a handful of shows where the sound wasn't good but I blame the sound engineers more than the theater itself. The chairs are comfortable, bathrooms are clean and there is a bar on the lower level. You can park on the street or in the garage next to the theater (parking is usually $10 for events) For a treat, exit near Hatch Recording Hall to see a gorgeous glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly.

Wonderful experience
Jun 2018 • Couples
Went to a sold out Jazz Festival show at Kodak Hall last night. It was awesome. The venue inside is beautiful and the acoustics are great. It is easily accessible and parking is right nearby. We had an issue with our tickets which caused us concern when we got to our seats. A very nice staff person named Rick took it upon himself to resolve the issue. He quickly did so to our satisfaction and we were able to enjoy the show. VERY NICE! We cannot thank him enough! We really enjoyed being there and would not hesitate to return, especially after the support given to us.

Wonderful Theater in Downtown Rochester. Rochester Philharmonic is a top rate orchestra. Just next door is the Eastman Theater which offers many free concerts in the incredibly beautiful Kilbourn Hall.
