About
As one of the world’s premier music schools, the Eastman School of Music has been enriching the musical life of Rochester since 1921. Today, the School presents more than 700 concerts a year in the magnificent Eastman Theatre, intimate Kilbourn Hall, and the modern Hatch Recital Hall – providing the Rochester community with an exceptional opportunity to experience world-class music in a world-class setting. The School’s rich and diverse concert season features prominent guest artists, our own acclaimed faculty, and our incredibly talented students and ensembles. No matter what type of music you prefer, you’re certain to hear it at Eastman: Classical, jazz, and opera. Symphonic and chamber music. Early music, new music, world music – there is something for everyone! The general public is welcome at all Eastman concerts and performances. Remarkably, most concerts are free; those that are not are modestly priced.

The Rochester Philharmonic Pops, with the great Jeff Tysyk conducting and celebrating his 30 year anniversary, we marvelous. All of the soloists were excellent, especially trumpeter Herb Smith. The orchestra shoed great respect for the music of Cuke Ellington and George Gershwin, giving the wonderful harmonies of Duke and melodies of Gershwin a beautiful strings' richness. Jeff is to congratuated for his choice of music and soloists, as well as masterful conducting. Plus, a beautiful setting.

This is a delightful venue for musical performances of all kinds. There is a main theatre and some smaller ones in the same building. The city cleaned up the neighborhood years ago so it's pretty safe. The only challenge is parking, but we've always managed to find a spot on the street within two blocks. The music school sometimes holds free events, and there are elegant restaurants nearby, so the area is really a great cultural resource.

This is an amazing historical building that speaks of the rich culture that Rochester had and continues to have. Worth seeing it, including the restrooms. And if you have a tour guide, even better. Interesting to hear about Mr Eastman's life.

The music halls (Kilbourn, Hatch, and Kodak/Eastman Theater) of the Eastman School
of Music provide some 600 FREE performances during the school year. The halls are beautiful and the students are all professional musicians in their own right. The top student (upper students and grad student) orchestra, Philharmonia, is the best orchestra in the city! Sit in the balcony of the theater for the best view and accoustics

recently was in rochester for the jazz festival and saw a show at the Eastman Kodak Theatre. The band performing was scheduled to play a 2-1/2 hour set with an intermission but due to theatre rules - had to cut show short (less than 1-1/2 hours). Unfortunately, all of us paying fans were expecting the full show as the show was getting rave reviews from the other cities on the tour! This was the only performance on the tour that was cut short. The worst part of it is that the fans had to listen to 15 minutes of pompous rhetoric from the organizers about how they were able to attract big name international artists to the festival and take up valuable concert time!!!!!!!
The worst part is I have written the theatre 3 times for an explanation on the curfew but have not received a response - so want to let everyone know about the 10pm curfew and the horrible customer service from the theatre - there silence speaks volumes! They just don't care!!!

We attend 5 or 6 performances each year in this outstanding piece of history. Recent renovations enhanced its overall appeal. Seating is tight and the leg room is lacking but this does not distract from the outstanding performances. This is definitely a 5 star venue.

It's hard to add much to what has already been said, but I'll give it a try. I was there last week for a performance of Beethoven's Ninth. The orchestra and the oratorio singers sounded superb, even from the last balcony, where I sat. Acoustics, atmosphere, and at the entire experience were memorable. (And the parking is convenient and reasonable.)

The Eastman Theatre is a wonderful venue. It is home to the Rochester Philharmonic and the Eastman School of Music. It was refurbished not too long ago. it seats about 2300. While the upper balcony is a distant view, there isn't a bad seat in the house. Park in the East end Garage, just a short walk to the theatre. There are a variety of dining options nearby; some just outside the doors and others a five minute drive away.

a beautiful and great concert hall with a stunning good acoustic. After the rennovation some years ago, when the hall was downsized from over 3000 to about 2300 seats, the quality and clarity of found gained a lot !
Go there for a concert !

Would love some seating tips as I haven't been to this venue before. I see there is a wall between pit and front orchestra seats. Does this wall impede the view if one is sitting in Row A or B? The stage looks high (so hard to tell from photos). Do you have to look up if you are sitting in the first few rows? Thank you

if you can't get upfront - then the mezzanine are the best seats

Type in Eastman Theatre in search bar and pull up their website and go to calendar page. It is the best place to track down events at not just Kodak Hall but all the music programs at the Eastman Theatre be it a national act or student recital.

Parking on the street in free on the weekends and after 6 pm during the week. I would suggest street parking. The Parking Garage with an entrance off Main Street, right near the Eastman Theater is good if you are there before 6 pm. Not sure of the price.
