After reading mostly good reviews and being a traveler from the Midwest, I was somewhat excited to experience this. We went mid-morning on a Thursday on a cold and damp day. It was rather boring and not what I was expecting from the hype this place was getting. Most of the venue was void of vendors and there were few people attending. That made it easy to look. Prices on much of the produce looked reasonable, some downright a bargain compared to a store like Aldi. Didn't buy anything since we were traveling. It took us less than a half hour to see it all. I'm sure on a Saturday and with better weather the crowd would be better.

The market was everything I was hoping for and more. Within five minutes of being there I was greeted by a nice young man from a fresh fish still who gave me an introduction to the market when I told him I had never been. The variety of products was incredible, the efficient operation and friendliness of the people was delightful, and the atmosphere was lively and interesting. If I lived nearby I could see myself doing over half of my grocery shopping at the market every week. The next time I am anywhere near Rochester I will plan another visit.

We were a bit disappointed to see only a small number of vendors were at the market when we arrived on Tuesday. The indoor market was almost non-operational. The fruits and veggies did look very fresh and reasonably priced. We would have grabbed a bunch if we were staying in town. Head that Saturday would be a much better day to visit.

Go at sunrise and first go to durand Eastman Beach followed by the market....we go almost every Saturday from spring to late fall. When I brought back the better than grocery store produce and told my mom what we had paid....she had to go check it out for herself!!

Loved it. Great deals on fresh veggies, fruits, some other vendors. Everyone very friendly. Parking was excellent for handicapped. Very interesting selections in the food court, inside the public building. We went Tuesday, food court wasn't open. Thursday we went and it was. We got coffee, beef empanadas, goat cheese, kalamata olives. Outside we bought bananas, apples, blackberries, raspberries, cabbage, tomatoes. There were variety of local grapes. Tuesdays are the least amount of vendors, they said Saturday they have the most.

The public market is a great place to purchase food directly from farmers. There are two open pavilions and one enclosed area. There are also a few stands that sell
food cooked to order in a separate area and two or three coffee shops. There is also a restaurant open in the evening.

Minus the "flying Fish" it reminded me a lot of Pike Place Market in Seattle. There were so many unique booths, that consisted of food, jewelry, clothing, the biggest vegetables I have ever seen, and so much more. Such a great time wandering through the aisles looking at everyone's crafts. This is a must go, and something for the whole family.

Our son is enrolled at local college here, and have been here several times now from out of state. They have the absolute best produce I’ve ever seen at a farmers market! So much so, on our last visit, we drove by there on way out of town just to stock up on fruits, vegetables, and assorted items to take back home, several states away! Amazing selection, and great prices. And have an inside market with fish and meat products as well. Great place!

After hearing so much about the Rochester Public Market, my wife, who is from Thailand, wanted to go. It was a big disappointment for her. There was lots of cheap (and I don't mean inexpensive) flea market junk and the produce was way overpriced, sometimes twice the price of the local grocery stores. These are the same farmers that supply the local grocery stores and were charging more than the stores charged. Some vendors bought items from the local grocery stores and sold them at the Public Market for a large markup. Pineapples with the store tag still on them for 50% more than the store price. As far as I could tell the "organic" produce just meant dirty. My wife loves avocados and bought several. Everyone of them was rotten inside. I grew up on a small farm and we sold fruits and vegetables at our roadside stand every year to supplement the family income. We would have never sold junk like what my wife and I found at the Rochester Public Market.

We found this market by mistake when visiting the Rochester area, so we decided to stop even though it was raining. There is an outdoor section under cover that sells fruits, veggies, jams, honey, syrup etc then there is an inside building that also sells pastries, meats, dry goods, coffees, veggies and fruits etc etc. we got some great deals on all of the above items
We also noticed they were selling Xmas trees and wreaths so I am assuming they do pumpkins and Halloween decor in October as their site says they are open all year. I did also notice there were a few shops on the other side too which looked like speciality shops we didn't go over to them because we had several bags that were getting heavy and the rain and wind was cold and yucky.
A must stop at if you want fresh items for dinners, we liked this market
