- SHLROASt. Catharines, Canada50 contributionsClose experience with the animalsWhat a cute little zoo! Was perfect for a nice stroll on a Saturday afternoon. Spent about 90 minutes there. Well worth the $12 admission fee. I've never been so close to lions before! The elephants, Rhino, Otter, and monkeys were the other highlights. Grounds were spotless and pens were in good condition for the animals.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 11, 2023
- Ken453 contributionsThe cat's meow...Yeah, there are more than just cats but they were the coolest encounters at this little zoo for me. Seneca Park Zoo is a nice, little zoo. This was the second stop in an upstate zoo tour. It is not a 'destination' zoo for a trip for most people as you can pretty well cover it satisfactorily in less than an hour (though I spent the day) but it's a great experience for a morning or afternoon excursion. It has a very unusual, looong east-west layout and there is one path to the back and that's your path out. No 'regions' or 'ecosystems' so to speak and the trail runs, generally, along the north side of all the habitats making photography, especially late in the year, very challenging if the sun's out. Fairly well done habitats for the limited space. The lion habitat offers some opportunities to get 'up close and personal' though the shot I got eye to eye with the one lioness had too much glare/reflection to be that 'special' shot. The baboons are very active and, again, the habitat allows for some close up encounters. Seeing the lynx feeding and getting their story from the keeper was a bonus. Nice sea lion habitat. Elephants, rhino and seeing giraffe 'training' rounded out a beautiful day. Oddly, the river otters, who normally are a highlight of any zoo visit, were rolled up in a ball, sleeping all day. Staff here is very engaging and professional. This zoo also has ASL signage at all habitats. Something I've never encountered at any other zoo, which was very interesting. Some are actually 'motion' in that, as you pass, the person actually goes through the signing. Very affordable and free parking.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten October 12, 2023
- Barbra MKitchener, Canada16 contributionsLoved it!You can really get up close (safely!) to many of the animals. The sea lions were so fun to watch, diving around in their pool. Lions, red pandas, elephants & giraffes were all out and about the day we went. Tip - ABSOLUTELY pay the extra few dollars when you get to the zoo 'train' at the end of the zoo, as it will take you right back to the entrance/exit area.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 13, 2024
- Kim FRochester, New York27 contributionsLarge Plastic Straw Cups ConcerningI want to love this zoo, but over the last 5 years the price of a hot dog has gone up about $7. They’ve invested so much in the air conditioned restaurant, but I feel like every year my kids ask when the gorillas are coming. My oldest is starting to notice that they never come. There were a lot of animals out today and the penguin presentation was wonderful. However it kind of blows my mind how they push the plastic straw bottles that you can bring back and refill. The presenter at the penguins actually mentioned not using plastics. If they want to offer cheaper refills, why don’t they have you bring a stainless steel bottle? I already had the plastic straw bottle for soda and if we wanted a slushee the only option is to purchase another plastic bottle that is going to end up in a landfill. It’s kind of crazy. Maybe practice what you preach? I miss when the zoo offered affordable kids meals. It’s not a tourist destination and the food prices are not in line with other places. The cookie was $8 and hard. You can get great food at Sea Breeze for cheaper.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 18, 2024
- Ginger B ROswego, New York534 contributionsSmall Easy zooThis is a nicely laid out smaller zoo, which i think would be perfect for younger kids. Nice, modern habitats for the animals. Loved the seal display. You can watch them play ball underwater. So fun to watch!Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten July 26, 2024

I went to the zoo on Saturday 7/25 it was myself and 2 teenage daughters. I liked the idea of the timed tickets to control the amount of visitors and the signage for the paths was great. There were plenty of sanitizing stations also a plus. Other guests were not adhering to the 6 foot rule but I can not hold that against the zoo. Now to my 1 star review. The reason I am giving this zoo a 1 star is because of the staff. We had a great day then at the end we even decided against my better judgement to get food there on our way out even though I knew the prices would be insane but it supports the zoo. After eating on our way out we stopped to use the ladies room. All 3 of us went in and entered the stalls at the same time. Upon walking out of my stall I saw my 13 yr old daughter standing by my door with a look of fear on her face. I turned to see a male employee of the zoo talking on his cell phone cleaning the sink. He made eye contact with me and then continued to do his job as if I wasn't there. I waited for my other daughter we washed our hands and left the restroom all while he was still in there. Once outside my daughter started crying she told me he knocked on the door which I did not hear in the stall and he walked in. When he saw her she told him there were still 2 women in the stalls he ignored her and went about cleaning the sink. I immediately grabbed another older female worker that looked like she was a higher position due to having a walkie talkie etc. I proceeded to explain to her what happened and she could see my girls & myself were visibly shaken. After I told her everything she said "Well where is he?" I said he's still in the ladies room. She said "ok" and walked away. WHAT!!! No I'm so sorry, I will talk to him, That should of never happened NOTHING!! So then I went to the gift shop again to support the zoo because my girls wanted something. I asked the woman in working in the shop who was in charge and explained to her what happened. As I finished the 1st women I spoke to was walking by so I pointed her out and I was told by the gift shop worker that yes she was the boss. Absolutely not! As a mother there is no excuse for what happened. I am also a girl scout leader and I will be telling all of my fellow leaders what happened. There is no excuse for a male worker to be in a ladies bathroom while children are in there.

Our family went to the zoo on a Thursday, at 12 in the afternoon.
The zoo still was still buzzing with parents and their young children as well it not overly crowded at all.
Checkin is quick, we purchased tickets online and went with our 3 1/2 year old and new born.
The seals are a must and the Giraffes, we met some of the caretakers of the giraffes and they told us interesting facts!!
Baby OMI short for Omstead who is only 7weeks old, the Dad Parker was separated he plays a little to rough right now with the baby.
Food court has been renovated:
We purchases a grilled chicken salad and a cheeseburger 2 drinks and a bag of chips.
Under $40
Burger are $16 alone
Food was very good and we had no complaints.
We also later got ice cream from one of the stands for everyone.
It was a nice experience better than our usually visit, speaking with the attendees.

This zoo is small, which I LOVE. It’s my happy place to walk around. I was looking at some bad reviews about the zoo and quite a few of them were talking about how no animals were out. Sometimes the animals are being fed, or they want to go inside for a little bit, just like people! If you don’t see the penguins, or sea lions, or any other animal, just go somewhere else in the zoo and come back to see if they’re there! I’ve probably been to the zoo at least 200 times in my life (I’m not kidding)! I will never stop coming here!

For the size of the zoo we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of animals out and visible. Many many of the animals could be viewed up close. The layout of the zoo is linear so the tram is a good option rather than having to backtrack through the whole park. There is plenty of shade.

It’s amazing that we live so close to such a great zoo! They have such an impressive variety of animals for such a small city and there’s so much for kids to interact with and play with. It’s a great way to spend a day outside with family or friends. It’s a great deal for the cost and a great mission to support!!

You are better off driving to Buffalo or Syracuse to visit there Zoos. We have been members for the last five years, and every time I go, I dislike even more. The Zoo is very long, and narrow. They took out an old building 4 years ago that was at the entrance, which housed primates, tortoises, reptiles, birds. They replaced it with a log park, and they have just now started planning for it's replacement. The only thing that they have built is more places to eat, which is not the reason I take my kids to the zoo. You need to walk a half mile before you see an animal, and they probably won't be out. You never see most of the animals. They have placed an emphasis on amenities, and not animals. By the time they have the new animal buildings up, they will have lost a generation of children.

Yeah, there are more than just cats but they were the coolest encounters at this little zoo for me.
Very affordable and free parking.

We were passing through Rochester to visit family on our way to Niagara Falls and decided to stop by the zoo. We really enjoyed our time there, even though it was cold and some of the animals were not visible (which we expected due to the temperature. Our daughters ages 7 & 6 had a great time seeing the red panda (who was asleep but it was still fun to spot it in its little hammock), lions, a tiger, zebras, wolves, elephants, sea lions, baboons, giraffes, and more. And they absolutely loved the playground/obstacle course just inside the front gate. Thank you for a lovely afternoon, Seneca Park Zoo!

There are several indoor areas of the Zoo to explore! The Main Building, which houses the Aviary and primates in addition to a variety of amphibians and South American species, is the first one as you make your way through the Zoo. Next is the ECO Center, featuring an indoor viewing area of the North American river otter habitat and reptiles. The Z.O.T. Zone has interactive play stations and the Education Center across from it is where you could stop for a story at 11 a.m. if you visit on a Wednesday before March ends. Finally, there is an area for guests to view inside the Elephant Barn in A Step Into Africa. You could certainly spend a couple of hours visiting these indoor locations, though you would need to walk outside between them. Hope this helps!

Depends on the time of year. This time, it is $12 for an adult, and was $9 for my daughter who is 5. They have a website where they list the pricing and the dates. It's open year round.
