This place is not needed and is an eyesore. It was basically a Cuomo project. The Erie house could have easily been used as it already exists. Staff are annoying.

Great stop along the NY Thruway with a lot of history thrown in and the historical society in the area is working hard to make it a great learning experience. The volunteers are locals who grew up in the area and have deep family roots...More

A great stop along the NYS Thruway between exits 40 and 41. There’s a large sign, you don’t have to get off the Thruway, and it’s FREE. Spend as much or as little time as you like. There is a very informative tour (20 minutes...More

This is a really easy on/off from I-90 and an outstanding opportunity to learn about the Erie Canal. The exhibits, locks and the historical buildings are all worth seeing.

Its not often that you can access an attraction directly from the thruway, in fact this is the only one I know of. I had stopped to see the remnants of the old locks a few years ago and then another time I noticed that...More

Happened to stop on the Thruway and had a delightful time. All the staff were great and very knowledgeable. Great for families! You can visit and walk in the lock. Also visit buildings from when that part of canal was operational.
