We had a short stay at Unterammergau one long weekend. Just one km away, the Steckenberg Sommerrodelbahn (summer Toboggan) opened up that day. We went on the ride 3 times and it was great fun for both adults and kids as well. The pulley takes you up the hill, and releases you down a set of curves and turns, at a speed you can control.. all set against mountains and scenery thats unbeatable. We went on full throttle, and enjoyed it to the core!. Not very expensive either.

Awesome experience for the kids. I was a bit scared but my 10 year old reassured me that it will be ok. ;) The ski lift will take you up to the top, but if you are not comfortable sitting on a bench with your feet dangling, you might want to skip it.

This was such a fun ride!! It is thrilling and very cheap. The luge was really easy to use. I would have loved another turn on it but unfortunately did not have time. I'd recommend everyone to try it at least once...it's a great experience.

The Rodelbahn in itself is quite fun. Not too expensive. Fast. Quite the the adrenaline rush.

Then we get to the bottom. The owner/operator yelled at us to get off the micro second we got to the bottom. I said, "Yes, yes we're getting off." He come over an starts yelling at me in front of my daughter that our weight is bad for the conveyor belt the bahn is sitting on and that it costs a ton of money. I tried explaining to him that, after the adrenaline rush, the riders need a half a second to catch their breath, that I have my daughter on my lap and that I need a second to catch my breath and get my bearings." Him, "Well, that's certainly the first time ever and you can follow instructions if I give them to you!!!"

Unbelievable! I'm posting a photo of the conveyer belt. You'd imagine that the guest would have until the orange tassels to get off! NO WAY! That would destroy the precious rubber bands of the conveyor belt. No! Be prepared to jump your behind out of the car the millisecond it come careening in at full speed!

This place looks like it has been here for a long time, and that was part of the charm. The lone operator was very friendly as she taught us the simple mechanics of the sleds. The slow ride up fills you with anticipation, then release! It is such a simple thrill to scoot down the mountain in the slick stainless steel luge run. 6 of us (all adults) stopped here and couldn't wipe the grins off our faces after the first ride down. You might take it easy the first run but by the third you'll be a speed demon! You really don't need to brake for the turns, you just have to be daring enough to go for it. A very cheap thrill, and totally worth the €2 to slide down the mountain. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

Two adults and two young adults visited July 2018. We have done a lot of these over the years, the kids have always loved them and so do the adults. The Steckenberg sommer rodelbahn is good fun for all ages. It's true that there are not the same safety-standards and fuss as in the UK.....but that's the fun of it. You just need to know how to brake and ride at a speed that you are comfortable with. There is a small children's play area and a couple of restaurants nearby. Costing €15 euros for 6 turns we had 3 turns each. . €10 for kids is great value. It's very different to it's much larger neighbour at Oberammergau, but loads of fun (and a bit less scary if I am honest!) I have done both of these local rodelbahn/coasters and both are a real buzz

No lines in September. Close to Oberammergau. Site includes a restaurant. The operator was friendly. Went for three rides. Its a great time. I think the maximum weight was listed at 275 lbs.

My wife and I decided to ride the Sommerrodelbahn during our stay in Oberammergau. It is located just a few minutes drive north on the main road. When we first arrived we saw a lot of children with their parents and thought that maybe this was a kiddy ride, but not at all - it is a lot of fun.

We purchased a 6-ride card for I think 15 Euros that enabled both of us to ride three times. Operation is simple, there is a handle on each side of the cart. Push forward to go fast and pull back to slow down. The tow to the start of the ride probably takes longer than the ride itself, but the ride is exciting. On the way down at two points I saw signs in German indicating to brake. When I asked my wife if she had seen the signs she said "what signs, I didn't know you were supposed to brake?" If you are in the area with children it is an activity they will enjoy, but even we thought it was great.

We'd recommend this to anyone. We really enjoyed our one ride down the Sommerrodelbahn. It was inexpensive and we didn't brake at all on the way down. A great thrill even for middle aged people like us.
