BRING LOTS OF QUARTERS FOR THE FISH FOOD DISPENSERS
Aug 2021
If you’re looking for another low tech spot for kids (no video games), this is it. The website says staff are on hand 7-3:30 to help with the educational experience, but don’t count on it. Still, it’s a great place.
FYI-1)Bring plenty of quarters for the fish food bubble gum type vending machines. 2)Bring small cups for the fish food to lessen the chance of spilling while dispensing. 3)For some reason, there are no trash cans anywhere. 4)The different raceways hold fish from fingerlings to 4-5 year old trout. 4)Picnic tables are available and a 5)Kiosk with lots of info, but the kids really just want to feed the fish and follow them as they swim around in the raceways.

Nice place to relax
Sep 2020
After church, drove to the park to see the Mushroom House (you can park at Hatchery and walk to the house to take a picture). After driving past, I walked around the hatchery, got some fish food and spent 1/2 hour feeding the Brown and Rainbow trout. It was just relaxing and it had been awhile since I had done something like that. Their is a pond nearby as well as small gardens and walking trails. Nothing fancy but pleasant on a sunny day.

Exciting
Jul 2019 • Family
This was my first time visiting a fish hatchery before so this was pretty cool to me. There is a fish food dispenser so that you can feed the fish except the baby fish which are covered with netting.

I enjoyed visiting this beautiful location with my family. It is simple and cool. There are two large picnic tables and two grills for family or group outings. There are no garbage cans throughout the location so you must take your garbage with you.

Overall, it is a simple location that serves its purpose in the community. It is located in Powder Mill Park.

Kids love it!

The hatchery is a favorite little spot for our family. You can feed the fish and watch them splash and swim in the pools. We bring our own cups and lots of quarters to buy fish food from the machines. You can enjoy the hatchery then head into the park for a hike or a picnic when you’re done. Great, simple summer fun on a budget!

Simple fun!

We hit tractor supply and bought a 7 dollar bag of fish food! We had more than enough and shared with several other visitors! My boys loved it as did I! They are really pretty fish. Nice calming activity for all!

Feed the fish
May 2018 • Family
This is a fun place to go to observe a variety of fish in a natural setting. The tanks are clean and the fish actively swim around. It's relaxing and entertaining. You can buy some fish food and toss it to them -- they snap it up.

great place to take grandchildren
Sep 2017 • Family
One of my favorites to go with my four year old granddaughter is the fish hatchery. she takes her quarter with her to buy food for the fish. I love watching the fish jump up in the air just as much as she does to grab for the food.

Great for more than fifty years

I went as a kid in the 1960s, took my kids there whenever we visited Pittsford over the past twenty five years, and just visited again with my youngest. There are no electronics, no rides, no formal tours needed, it is nothing fancy. Just a great place to go and see and feed some fish, read about what the place is all about, and enjoy being outside. And even with it being so simple, kids will appreciate it.

Fun for a quick stop

I have taken my grandchildren here several times. They love to feed the trout that aggressively go for the fish food when you throw it in. Fish food is available from a bubblegum-like machine, but I prefer to buy mine from Tractor Supply and bring it along. They sell pond food by the gallon-size container. One container will last for many trips.

Feeding the Fish
Jul 2017 • Family
Tip: Be sure to bring quarters and either a bag or cup to buy fish food.

My family and I went there planning to spend 15 minutes at the fish hatchery and 45 minutes at the playground in the park that we heard about from other reviewers, but things turned out differently. We ended up using 5 quarters for 4 people to feed the fish for about one hour. Overall, it was fun to watch the fish swim through the water and compete to see which fish ends getting the fish pellet. In fact, it was so much fun to watch & feed them that we lost track of time and before we knew it, an hour had passed. We were all surprised that it was already time to leave. We ended up not going to the playground, but it was still super fun. Parking was good. We definitely want to come back again when we have more time so we get to check out the playground.
