A Gem!
Oct 2021
What a small gem of a museum. Free, but open to donations, it is operated by volunteers who provide on-site tours and are highly knowledgeable about the content and history of the museum as well as of the area in which it sits. Highly recommend.

Cool old time locomotive taking you through a nice trail. Tour guide tells you a little about the 30 minutes. Nice for kids and leaf peepers.

Excellent museum and worth the visit
Aug 2019
Beautifully restored and maintained facility complete with a model train set up to show the past layout of the railroad in the area. Staff members were very knowledgeable and kind. The restored waiting area is beautiful! Highly suggest a visit along with the RailExplorers activity next door. Or this is a great place for some of the group to do the physical activity and those looking for a more relaxing event tour the museum.

Nice, but Could be Better.
Aug 2019
Our group of four visited after riding Rail Explorers. Good beginning, and worth the visit, nice gift shop. It has the potential to be much more informative and better. We spent a handful of dollars and donated a few shekles, and plan to return next year.

Great little museum!
Aug 2019
We were staying in Phoenicia for a couple of days and walked across the river to the museum. We were warmly welcomed by the employee in the shop - there is no admission charge, but donations are welcome. Paul LaPierre had just started giving a tour and we jumped on the back of that - the story of the rise and fall of the railroad was a fascinating insight into the rise of the car and the demise of certain industries (mining and milk production). Paul also let our children have a look at a couple of the railroad wagons being refurbished in the shed next door.

It's not a huge museum, and opening hours are limited, but if you get the chance it's definitely worth a visit - the dioramas give an insight into how it could have looked in its peak.

Nice Volunteer Run Free Museum
Jun 2019 • Couples
The building is the old freight station and it has been nice restored. There is also a railroad explores that operates on the property but is not affiliated with the museum. It appears that the Catskill Mountain Railroad that used to operate just down the road has some of their equipment stored in the yard. The Catskill Mountain Railroad now operates out of Kingston.

The museum is really nice albeit small. The displays are well maintained and there is a lot of potential for this museum to grow bigger.

Tiny Railway Museum
Jun 2019 • Solo
It's small and in need of money and volunteers. It consists of a small restored station with well-curated models, artifacts and photos. There are some railway cars awaiting restoration on the premises that are not yet visitable. A mostly dis-assembled steam locomotive also awaits restoration in a shed. Best toured before or after participating in Rail Explorers next door.
