This was an amazing tasting experience.
This was an amazing tasting experience and I know why reservations are hard to get and are needed. The owner himself does the tasting and for an hour you experience a very different process of learning wine and why wine tastes different from person to person. I highly recommend this winery for Riesling tastings to learn the differences the lake provides to growing grapes and the processes that Kemmeter uses.

Best Wine Tasting in Finger Lakes
Of the 12-14 wineries we visited during our 4 day Finger Lakes trip, the tasting here was our favorite. It takes place in a cozy room with a capacity of maybe 8 (reservations required) with classical music playing. The owner presents the various wines with such interesting details on the process and factors that contribute to the different tastes (year, weather conditions). He is so passionate about what he does and clearly loves bringing everyone into his world in the hopes it helps them appreciate wine a bit more. His wife also runs the dumpling shop next door and they are FANTASTIC.

The best hour you can spend in the Finger Lakes
There is no better wine made in the Finger Lakes than at Kemmeter. Johannes is the heart and soul of Kemmeter. He brings such passion, warmth and knowledge to his wine making, and marvelously high quality standards. Spend a personable hour with him in a wine tasting and you will feel like you just spent an hour with an old friend, an old friend who is a remarkable wine maker who shares his passion and knowledge with you.

A small winery with good wines and an excellent tasting experience
A very small winery with some very good wines. The winemaker conducts the tastings, As a result, tasting hours are limited and reservations are absolutely necessary. However, the effort to make reservations is worth it. The winery offers a single Pinot Noir and four dry to slightly off-dry rieslings, and the winemaker takes the taster through each one, not only discussing the wines themselves, but also educating them about the winemaking process and how the nuances of each wine impact the tasting process. Probably the high point of five days spent in the Finger Lakes region.

Glad some locals recommended this spot. Reserve at least a month in advance!
You must have a reservation, but it's worth it. Plan to make your reservations about 1-2 months prior to your desired visit. It bookes quickly! The winemaker/owner does all tastings personally in a private tasting room for 6-8 people. It lasts for about an hour and it goes quickly! He is so passionate about his wines! And, they are quite enjoyable as well. After you finish tasting, go stand in line at his wife's dumpling shop a small walk away. They taste as delicious as they smell!

We vacation in the Finger Lakes every year and have visited numerous wineries in the area. We’ve been trying to get reservations at Kenmeter for a while and finally were able to do so. We had a wonderful, private, intimate tasting with the owner Johannes. This was by far our best experience yet! The wines were outstanding! We loved them all. Don’t miss this special gem. We will definitely return every time that we are in the area. We highly recommend it!

It isn't often that you get to spend quality time with an owner/winemaker and discuss wines and other things in a small setting. You can do this with Johannes Reinhardt, the owner, along with his wife, of Kemmeter Wines. The name Kemmeter is from Johannes' grandmother by the way. Tastings are by appointment only in a small but nice tasting room which is adjacent to Johannes' house. The room is small and tastings are limited to six at a time. Johnannes does this he explains so he can spend time with his customers. It's really a unique experience, so unlike the usual mass tastings along the Finger Lakes. But the wine is the thing after all and Kemmeter's are excellent. The lower priced Reisling is an exceptional buy for around $14. The other Kemmeter labels, all Reislings are more expensive in the $24-$28 range but well worth it. There is a very unique white made of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, the first harvest bottled from the estate that you must try. There is a premium label of $40+ but it is of limited production and bottled only when conditions merit it Johannes explained so none was available but I'll be watching. It is wonderous to see somebody so pleased and happy with their work. He doesn't plan to grow big, probably around 2000-2500 cases per year as he wants to maintain the personal touch and be able to work in the vineyard as well. He is truly remarkable and very personable in addition to being very knowledgable. There is no fee for the tasting but in keeping with his attitude towards things, he and his wife have put a jar on the tasting bar. There is no pressure to put anything in it but anything you do goes towards orphans "adopted" by his church and he'll show you a picture of the kids that you are helping.
You sometimes have to wait to get an appointment and you can do it by phoning or emailing as he is open for tastings only Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1:30 to 5 but it's worth the wait.

The Finger Lakes have a lot of good wine, but if you want to try the best, you must call Kemmeter and make an appintment to taste. This is not a hurried little run in and pick 5 wines stop, this is an education in FLX vineyards by arguably the most influential winemaker since Dr Frank.
