I'm a landscape and wildlife photographer from Florida. I was in Rochester New York visiting family and took advantage of the location to select various waterfalls to visit and photograph while in the area. This location made the list as it's such a beautiful and isolated area. It was an easy drive from Rochester and my GPS dropped me right at the rural parking lot, complete with a porta-potty. I was surprised at that. Anyway, it's a short walk along the trail to the top of the falls. I elected not to drop down to the upper river bottom and instead walked back toward the parking area and made my way down the rock "stairs" to the riverbed below the falls. The weather had been wet in the central part of New York State but apparently, it did not drop here as the falls were showing a low volume of water. Still, it was an impressive view from below. When I visit locations like this, I always try to do it during the week, and get there early, as it cuts way back on crowds. I was the only person on the lower river bed. This allowed me to set up the tripod with no interference from people walking in the way. Nice. The climb back up the gorge was on the more difficult side but I had no issues. Nice tranquil experience.

We had spent a day hiking in various parks and almost skipped the Salmon River Falls. Boy, were we happy we went. After parking in the lot off of Falls Road, we walked up the short easy trail, where you get glimpses into the gorge and see the falls as they arise. The waterfall is much larger than you think, and there are several overlooks as you approach to get pictures. The cool part, however, is when the trail takes you to the top of the falls themselves, when a few short steps lets you step down onto the river bed - a rock slab where the water runs shallow before going over the edge. You can enjoy walking through the pools and streams - look over the waterfall edge. its a really cool place to hangout - but make sure to look down - though, where you will see graffiti carved into the rockface from boy scout troops from many decades previously (apparently before leave no trace).

A really nice out of the way falls that now has a port a potty! The view from the top is cool and there are a number of areas that people can spread out a bit and enjoy their own space. This was the first time that i had hiked to the bottom, it is an intense 1/10 of a mile trail. The stone steps going down are impressive, but coming up is quite an exercise. It was good that my wife passed on going down, i am in great shape and it was still a lot. Free entry to the park.

Beautiful hiking trails with the reward of a 110 ft waterfall for the intrepid. Come prepared with proper footwear because you DO NOT want to slip.

Sure, sure, I have to include something like, "It was gorge-ous", I know.
Honestly, while the flow over the falls is not that impressive, the 100+ foot drop certainly catches your eye.
There's a line painted across the river floor, about fifteen feet back from the edge of the falls for good reason: there have been injuries and deaths at this site.
From the parking lot (which has limited spaces), the 1,100-foot wheelchair-accessible trail is paved and well-maintained. There are points along the trail where you can get great views of the falls. There's also a trail that takes you down to the river's edge; this is not for those who find steep trails challenging.
There are no restroom facilities here--I found that out the hard way.

A great place for a walk alone or a whole family. Good parking space. A variety of trails to walk on. Pets are welcome! I spent the whole afternoon here and really enjoyed it. Listening to the falls was incredibly peaceful.

We were staying in Oswego and happened to see this on a billboard and decided to check it out. It is an impressively large waterfall, entry is free, and there is good access to falls overlooks, above the falls and below the falls. There are no restrooms here and parking is limited.

Huge waterfall. Trails were well groomed and not a difficult hike to get to the falls. The main trail to the falls is less than a mile and empties on top of the falls. One section of the trail is under construction. Lots of places for people to spread out and enjoy the water. A great way to cool off on a hot day with small kids.

This is one of those hidden gems in NY. This is a must see if you are in the area. I went here before the lower path was closed... the path was very dangerous and hard to walk down and up but the view from down there was amazing.

Can you bring dogs
Yes, I took my rottweiler and he was fine. The wall down to the falls is a little difficult. I'd caution with smaller and older dogs though

Hi Arlen,
I am in a wheelchair so my eyes went wide when you mentioned accessible! Is the area to the vantage point paved or crushed stone? And can I see the falls from the trail?
Many thanks for any insight you can offer.
Linda
Hello, The trail has a couple of wheel chair friendly overlooks of the falls. The trail is not paved, but is a fairly fine crushed stone that should not impact your trip
