A really nice out of the way falls that now has a port a potty! The view from the top is cool and there are a number of areas that people can spread out a bit and enjoy their own space. This was the first time that i had hiked to the bottom, it is an intense 1/10 of a mile trail. The stone steps going down are impressive, but coming up is quite an exercise. It was good that my wife passed on going down, i am in great shape and it was still a lot. Free entry to the park.

A great place for a walk alone or a whole family. Good parking space. A variety of trails to walk on. Pets are welcome! I spent the whole afternoon here and really enjoyed it. Listening to the falls was incredibly peaceful.

We visit this area every year. The history held in these falls is fascinating. Walking on the upper falls you see those that have come before you. I have seen signatures from army regimens from the early 1900's and sweethearts from 1940's. Take the ride and enjoy this hidden treasure.

We stopped by on our way to Alexandria Bay (1000 Islands). The walk to the falls is fairly short so it is easy to get there. The waterfall is nice but there are a lot of trees that block a good view of the falls. The access to the lower area was closed so we could not get to a spot that was not obstructed. If they would clear a little of the shrubs along the walk, it would make the view so much better. Maybe if we are in the area next time, the lower access will be open and we can get a better look at the falls.

This is one of our all time favorite un heralded falls. It out of the way but very rewarding. Over 100 ft high. One fun thing to do is search out the carving at the top of the falls.

My bf and I visited the falls on Memorial Day. Nice day drive from Syracuse. Great views and nice access to the water. Wear appropriate foot wear. Definitely could've hiked more without sandals on.

I used to live only about 5 miles away from the falls (Orwell). They really are spectacular, however I would suggest that if you are visiting them to plan your trip with other activities because of the distance from the beaten path.
If you are into salmon fising the NYS salmon hatchery is close. Syracuse NY is about 45 minutes South and Watertown NY about the same North.
Camping and nature is really what it is about at the falls area and of course Salmon fishing. If you have younger children I would just plan other activities for the rest of the day.
I would also highly recommend something like "Dep Woods Off" as the area can really be a bug challange at times.
Be safe and have a great time. It is also Amish country so if you have never been it is very interesting, however remember that Amish are not into photos for your family trip.
Now lets talk about snow. If you enjoy that and really want to see a power point I made while living there, just ask and I will send it to you.
Enjoy!

We visited yesterday when the trees are just starting to turn. It is such a beautiful serene location and free to boot! We hiked down the steep gorge right up to the falls. While I don't recommend that particular hike for a family with little ones you can still experience breath-taking views on the upper trail.

Breathtaking views! You would never know such a beautiful place was hidden away in Oswego County! Definately worth the drive! It is really pretty in the winter when there is ice (be careful!) and in the fall when the leaves are changing. Combine it with a day of apple picking in Mexico, NY.

We decided to stop here recently and were VERY glad we did. The kids LOVED it (and so did the adults!) The hike down was a little scary to me... being a mom you worry about the kids falling or taking off too far ahead, but it's a decent trail so no worries really. We hiked down to the bottom and took a lot of pictures. We only saw one other couple arriving as we were driving away so I would say it would be a great place to picnic or visit without any crowds or anything. DEFINITELY bring a camera, you will be glad you did!!!

Hi Arlen,
I am in a wheelchair so my eyes went wide when you mentioned accessible! Is the area to the vantage point paved or crushed stone? And can I see the falls from the trail?
Many thanks for any insight you can offer.

Hello, The trail has a couple of wheel chair friendly overlooks of the falls. The trail is not paved, but is a fairly fine crushed stone that should not impact your trip
