    Good Experience
We made reservations the day before we used the ferry. It took some stress off our minds knowing we would be able to board without hassles. Everything went smoothly and on time. Good experience overall.

We take the ferry during the summer to head up North. We prepay our trips in one lump sum to save money. They raise the prices every year. So.e ferries are bigger and better and fancier than others

    Convenient and Relaxing
We've taken the ferry several times to get back and forth between LI and Providence. It doesn't save us time but is much more relaxing than the traffic that we inevitably will encounter if we drive. Also, the food is better than one might expect.

We have been using the cross sound ferry for over 16 years almost on a weekly basis.
Unfortunately they don’t have any competition and they take advantage of that. We have no choice. Sometimes we travel on our Ford F150 truck, once in a while with the bike rack and some times we travel just on our Mini Cooper. The price is the same. Today we were going back from New London on our Ford truck with the bike rack. The ferry was less than half empty but they decided to charge extra for the little extra room of the bike rack. It was totally absurd. They just wanted to give us a hard time. When we take the Mini Cooper, they don’t give us a break and still squeeze us like sardines.
Last month, instead of putting the truck in the middle where they had extra room (once again the ferry was half empty), they put us in a very tied space where the passenger couldn’t even get out. We asked for a little room in case we needed to go to the bathroom, but they refused, even though there was only one car parked behind us and lots of empty spaces after that.
Another time, I came an hour early and because I refused to pay extra, they didn’t let me go on a ferry that was almost empty in the middle of the winter. I was not in a rush, so I waited but it shows very poor customer courtesy.

Very dangerous to travel on this ferry now. They do not support mask wearing indoors. Almost everyone indoors(not eating) were not wearing a mask. Crew didn’t care as they didn’t have a mask on. Spoke with someone in the ferry office who claims both NY and CT told them no need to enforce masks. Find this hard to believe with Covid cases rising.

You would think the “overall privilege” of the east end would have dissipated in the last year but these folks lack compassion and must think they are performing brain surgery or something. In theory, their job is simple...help people get in the boat safely and with a fair price. Their customer service does not at all communicate information to the ticketing office. It’s a stormy day today I hope the stoic ticket handler isn’t the captain of the boat. I wish I could choose a different service but they are the only game in town which is why they don’t go out of their way. The best employees here are the guys at the gates - the rest pathetically awful. I will attempt another call to customer service when I have had a few deep breaths and see if one person can understand how I was given mis-information but followed it to a “T” but as a result am out $40 as a frequent boater member. I will close loop on this review once I complete that call.

On the 8 am ferry there were at least 30% of passengers not wearing masks and failing to safe socially distance. On the ferry site, it was noted that these COVID precautions were taken. There was a sign, but no enforcement. When we approached an employee he explained that he was instructed by management not to confront anyone and so the passengers who were not adhering to the policy whee left unadvised. Clearly, the written site instructions were not the ones that the company felt needed to be carried out. Very disappointed

The best experience ever!!!
The Jamaicans working in the deli are amazing. Tyese stood out, very professional and the way she speaks to her customers its evident she loves what she does. I look forward to visiting the Deli to observe her skills displayed on each trip. Her smile is amazing and i feel welcomed each time my family and I board the ferry!

I was on the 4 pm ferry from Orient to New London yesterday. I had a very distressing Mercury retrograde experience which was that I could not start my car after we docked. And there were tons of people behind me on the ferry who could not move their cars either! The problem was that I did not have my electronic key in my handbag. It turns out that the only way I had been starting the car was that a key that I had lost almost 2 years ago was in a refrigerator pack that I had in the car.

So there I was completely freaked out and panicking. The key that was in the refrigerator pack had stopped functioning because of all the ice in the pack and I didn’t even know it was there! I tried to explain this complicated story to the crew barely able to believe what was happening! They were unbelievably calm and supportive. They helped to push my car off of the ferry and while we were standing there trying to figure out what else they could do to help me I found the old key. At first it didn’t start the car but when it warmed up it did! I felt like hugging each and everyone of them. What a fantastic crew! They are five-star people in every way!

We took our first leisure ride today from New London, CT to Orient, NY. We bought the 2 pm tickets on line, but we arrived late at 1:50 pm. (they need you to arrive at least 15 minutes earlier). Thus we were put in the “waiting list” line together as walk-in. Luckily they took us as the last vehicle. Easy check in, they just need to scan the code from our cell, then print us a ticket. On the ferry, we went up to the seating area and eat. its very cleaned, spacious and comfortable. We were impressed that they have Dyson faucet in bathrooms. Weather is little foggy thus not much to view. Overall its a relaxed ride.

This company says they follow CDC guidelines but in reality they don't. We were sitting on the sundeck and the seats are back-to-back to strangers within 6", and surrounded by people who took off their masks and coughing and sneezing. Take this ferry at your own risk.

After spending a week on Shelter Island for vacation, much needed break from NYC...we booked a 1pm ferry to Connecticut to spend some time in Mystic, Ct.

We got to Orient NY early and was the first on line for standby for the 11am ferry. After all the cars got on we were able to get on without issue. The hour n 20 min ride was nice, didn’t rain but overcast made it a lot easier to relax on the top deck.
