We made our reservations for this year only weeks after we stayed in 2021. Four weeks before we were to visit we got an e-mail stating the balance left on our reservation had been increased by $173 over the three day holiday weekend. If we hadn't made reservations for several tourist attractions we'd have canceled. I called and spoke to the person at the front desk and asked if they had any discounts and was told - Yes, a senior discount. I planned to speak to a manager, when we got there concerning, the price increase and the discount. The manager told me that she had no clue why our rate had increased so much and that there was no discount because of the Columbus Day weekend. They eventually gave us a 10% discount after my protests but the rate for the hotel had gone up $30 per night! Never again!

I stopped by View with my family when we were leaving the Adirondacks and heading home. We saw the exhibit Unprecedented: Art Responds to 2020. This was an AMAZING exhibit. It wasn't just about the pandemic. The exhibit shows the work the artists created during that time period. For some artists, the pandemic gave the artists more time to create. Some artists created art related to the Black Lives Matter movement. There was a great deal of variety. This exhibit was top quality, what I would expect from a big city, and a real surprise coming from a cultural center in the Adirondacks. I'm amazed that the admission was only $10 and free for teens. What a bargain! We had a peaceful lunch on benches in the peaceful garden at the front of the center. This place is a cultural center, so it is more than just a museum. There are classes here, as well as performances. This center is a true gem!

It's been 40 plus years since we have been to Old Forge and the View Arts and Cultural Center was a nice surprise. We were able to view the Quilt Expo that is presently on exhibit. There were many beautiful handmade quilts. The creativeness and craftsmanship was amazing.
The View facility not only features exhibitions through out the year but hosts events - performances and work shops for pottery, glass, painting, writing, yoga, kids crafts and more. It was well worth the time to visit and view the exhibit.

This was a nice smallish gallery. There were some
nice pieces there. Some reflected the Adirondack region and some did not. They have other things there such as workshops and concerts, but they weren’t going on while we were there.

this mid week vacation was a great experience. Very nice boat tour and ski lift to see the fall leaves. The museum center which we have not been to 20 years has grown to meet and exceed our expectations

As the author of a 5-star review from 2018, it breaks my heart to come back and recount a negative experience. I know this place has the potential to be great. Today, it wasn't.
The tie-dye drop-in workshop was beyond underwhelming. If you want to spend $35 for a 10-minute activity in which everyone appears unenthusiastic to the point of being upset someone has interrupted their quiet time then this is for you. If you want to be issued a receipt for $30 only to have the person staffing the front desk rudely tell you that this is the wrong price and act like it's your fault and then charge you more without showing any pricing information, this is definitely for you.
We were excited to attend other workshops this week. We were excited to recommend the gallery to other adults in our group since it's not ideal for us with young children. Neither of these things will happen; I will never visit ViewArts again. The people working there seemed to go out of their way to make us feel unwelcome. It did not surprise me it was almost deserted.
So disappointed to have lost this as an Old Forge option.

All Creatures Great and Small allows viewers an opportunity to enjoy nature through three different mediums - sculpture, photography and water color. I gravitated to Al Jordan's sculptures which I thought were incredible. The second exhibit "Natural Homes: Nests, Burrows, Caves and Trees" offered even more diversity in mediums - an eclectic and unique exhibit. The final exhibit was a members show featuring Andrew Morgan and Debra Stamp. I enjoyed Morgan's photography but wish I cold have know more of where the photographs were taken.

This center has grown into a first class art center. The activities are endless and the displays, like the water color show are the best.

As a family with two toddlers, art museums are not exactly in our milieu. But View Arts has workshops Monday thorough Friday, with different themes and different pricing structures. We did the kids’ open workshop drop in and the tie-dye, and it was wonderful. Our kids were among the youngest—there were kids up to about 12 at the open workshop and adults were doing the tie-dye. The staff was friendly and helpful. This provided an enjoyable and affordable option on rainy days in Old Forge!

So peaceful in the woods. We had a great time seeing the deer wandering around and the peaceful area.
