I came with a friend to this park on a December weekday late afternoon. When I was here, admission was free. It can be hard to get parking on a weekend, but it was relatively empty on a weekday. There are many options on elevation; I crossed steep hills and flat lands. The views of the mountains, the Hudson River, the foliage, the birds, and the skyline of Westchester County were outrageous! Strangely, though, I did see quite a few fish dead fish along the trail.

Wow oh wow!! I never knew I would stumble on this amazing location. It was quiet with people jogging and cycling on the walkway close to the beautiful ocean view!! Great adventure, great exercise, wonderful scenic places to take amazing pictures !! The only spooky place was in the restroom. No lights so you have to do what you got to do quick !! Pack the drinks and food or snacks, nothing in the area for sale. Trust me take some time to find this hidden jem and enjoy and you can thank me later.

Took my 3 pups here on a Saturday morning in June and it was wonderful. Not too hot and a nice breeze going off the river. We stopped and they went swimming in the river. Only parking on the top now due to the wall collapse so might be hard with a stroller/ coolers/ wheelchair.

I enjoy sitting by the water with friends or family eating lunch at the picnic tables. The views are gorgeous & very peaceful area.
I grew up in the area & this is my favorite place to chill, bring a cup of coffee & a good book & you will feel so relaxed!

Nice and flat walkway along the Hudson River. You can extend the walk to either Rockland lake or Haverstraw; but these are uphill and trickier, dirt bikes only.
The paved trail is great for a stroll with the dog or the kids on bikes. Nice views all along, if needed there are lots of benches and picnic tables along the trail.

The walkway along the river is lovely, and the woods trails are also quite nice. Most of the cyclists are respectful of pedestrians, but some are not. Both times I've been to this park, I've nearly been hit by a cyclist riding incredibly fast. Yesterday, if my husband hadn't shoved me out of the way, I would have been hit and most likely severely injured. I asked the cyclist to slow down, but he didn't even acknowledge me. Honesty, I'm a cyclist too, and I wouldn't want to abolish bicycles from the park, but a couple of signs might be helpful, reminding the cyclists that the path is not just for them, and not a place to practice racing. These disrespectful and dangerous cyclists have all been adults, by the way. The children are always quite respectful of pedestrians.

We hiked along the Hudson here with interesting rock formations, passing seasoned hikers (we are not) and bikers. It was quiet and peaceful, with benches often to sit.

Unexpected gem in the area. We got here a little late in the day so we were not able to park in the main lot but the friendly worker at the gate told us where to park in the surrounding neighborhood. It was a little hike from the car so I'd recommend going early in the day. The views of the bridge are exceptional here. I did notice they had an area closed due to some erosion, rockslide type problem. Nice flat hike, or you could choose to go up the mountain, but we did not.

The main parking lot is closed and I it would be a long strenuous walk from the upper lot to get to fishing area.

Hi, we went to Nyack and viewed the Hopper House and McCullers House! Wonderful town, and will return to see the State Pk. and beach. But, is swimming allowed? Thanks for our help.

I would not swim there. I would walk all the way to Rockland Lake State Park which has swimming pools.

How is the swimming? It looks great for hiking and picnics, but can we swim there?

I would not swim there. I would recommend if you are going for a long walk, the other end of the trail ends up at Rockland Lake. There is a municipal pool there.
Hi Laura,
My fiance and I are looking to get married on the plateau at Nyack Beach State Park. I was just wondering if you had any tips or advice for having a wedding there? Thanks!

Think on your timing, as Nyack Beach State Park charges for parking in season. Its a beautiful spot, but not private. It weather is nice, the community will join your party, dogs and all!
Another suggestion, is the Pier in Piermont. The Mayor can conduct the ceremony. That might also be possible at Nyack Beach State Park.
Are dogs allowed?

Yes I believe so
Is the Nyack Beach state Park open at night? Like after 9:00 in the evening?

No, it closes at sunset. It's a beautiful trail though, along the Hudson.
how much does entrance to the park cost? or is it just parking that i have to pay for?

The vehicle (parking) fee is $6 mid April through October. Other times, there is no parking fee. Additionally, there is no fee simply to enter the park, and that is to say, whether driving or walking, you can enter the park free of charge. For further information, go to nysparks; click on the menu icon on the upper left; click on "viisit"; enter the name of the park.

I am looking for a nice 2-day trip from NJ to the Nyack area. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young teens. We will arrive evening, and are thinking of going to Nyack for dinner. For the next day, we have an entire day and are trying to decide if Nyack or Cold Spring would be our better bet. We are looking for a picturesque, quaint town with shops, restaurants, nice views of the river, some mild walking with views of the water etc. Can anyone advise as to which town might be better? Is Cold Spring too small for a whole day? Does anyone know if the Nyack Beach state park trails are safe to walk? (I have heard about crime in the nyack area.) Any other suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

Nyack is safe, and the trails have options...
Either up to Hook Mtn, or down along the Hudson!

Is the flat walking trail handicapped accessible. I'm a double amputee and I can't walk stairs. I'd use my scooter. Thank you.

You can most likely negotiate the auto-barrier at the trail head which you can get a glimpse of on Google maps
