I visited in the Spring and Summer in the past and now this Fall. This resort is in a peaceful and serene area. If you are looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is it. It helps me step back and re-energize. I am planning on experiencing the Winter with them.

We’ve been to Lapland in the past and had to go back. It’s wonderful. The cabins are so comfy and spotless. Everything you need is there. They supply firewood and clean your grill for you everyday. Who could ask for more? The staff is so friendly and helpful. We recommend it to anyone who wants a peaceful getaway. PS. Canoes and kayaks are there to use at no cost. Very nice swim area.

We needed to get away. Lapland lake was perfect. The cabin was spacious, clean, and quiet. Lots of space between cabins. The trails were lovely and calm, and it is a short walk to a spur of the northville-lake placid trail, for those looking for something more strenuous. The lake was clean and clear, full of newts and little fish. We swam a lot. Others canoed. There is no cell service, and spotty WiFi. But the absence was healthy at this time.

Spent a pleasant morning at Lapland testing out some new snow shoes. The location is convenient to the Albany Capital District. They offer well groomed cross country ski trails and a couple of snow shoe trails. Staff (and all the other adventurers) were pleasant.

We felt the xcountry skiing was wonderful. Nice trails, well groomed. I would definately go again to ski.

Our problem was their website. They claimed to have a number of other activities available. They also said they were open late on Saturdays until 9PM. We got there about 3:30PM on Sat. and planned to stay over until Sunday. They were supposed to have skating, tubing, night skiing and a ride on a sled on ice available.

Unfortunately, the ice skating pond was never shoveled properly and unskatable. Plus there were no lights on it. The tubing hill was incredibly small and they charged $7 a tube after saying that tubing was included in your ski pass. The night skiing was limited to one trail with very limited lighting and the sled on ice was not working either. After paying for our ski passes expecting to stay until 9PM, we left about 2 hours later, after we realized there was nothing to do after it got too dark to ski.

We're so glad you enjoyed our xc ski trails. We try diligently to offer a quality experience to all of our guests and thank tripadvisor for the opportunity to respond. It is always adviseable to check any ski center's condition report or to call ahead for updates on snow and trail conditions and activities. Weather conditions and other factors can impact regularly scheduled activities and special events. We make every effort at Lapland Lake to accurately report the status of each day's activities. We do offer a popular program of night skiing on 4km of lighted trails (beginner and intermediate levels) and lighted tubing on our children's hill on Saturday nights until 9pm through the 3rd week of March each winter (including the night of your visit on 1/19) along with a lakeside campfire. Those activities were publicized exactly in that manner and were available the evening you were here. Due to an unusual amount of recently fallen wet snow on the ice surface (which had subsequently frozen) we were able to clear only a small portion of the pond for ice-skating, and that day's online snow report indicated that: "There is a small area on our pond cleared for ice-skating." We did not publicize night ice-skating nor the children's ice sled in that day's condition report due to the limited ice-skating area that was available. When the ice sled is operational, it is offered on weekends and holidays from 2-3pm (as stated on the website, which includes wording - "ice conditions permitting"). It is not offered during late afternoon or evening hours when you were here. Purchase of a facility use pass does include use of ski and snowshoe trails, tubing and snowshoeing (including night activities on Saturdays). Guests may bring their own gear or rent equipment from us, and those rental rates are posted on our web site. We refer to our tubing hill as a junior hill - that day's report actually referred to it as a "children's hill" - to make clear to readers that this is not a sophisticated alpine tubing run - just an old-fashioned fun hill for kids. This is a popular spot for familiies who have a great time on it. We often hear back from guests how much fun they had tubing. We thank you for your feedback and hope you will return to ski with us again!

Rather small XC center. Main appeal is a shorter drive than the major centers further North. Generally appeals to the novice skier that isn't interested in a lot of terrain or challenging trails. The southern terminus of the Northville-Placid Trail is nearby and provides some interesting backcountry skiing. Do a search at [-] for a very nice free detailed section by section map.

Lapland Lake is a great place for a touring skier. As far as any real Nordic racing goes... This place was very unprofessional. They do nothing for the race, meaning they didn't groom just for the race, they force the races to be really early in the morning, and they did not consider other racing needs. The grooming was aweful for racing. No tracks on up hills in a classic race, areas where the groomer treads ate up all the snow, mounds of snow where the groomer stopped tracks. I have raced at Lapland a few times now and every time I have been disapointed and I am not hosting a race there again after my experiences. If you want to shuffle around, you are fine, but as far as racing goes, I was very disappointed.

We had such a perfect time. We arrived on Thursday at 1pm, and our tupa was ready for us. We stayed in Latu Tupa. It was simple, rustic and spotless. We stretched our legs on the snow shoe trail to get a feel for the place and do a little exploring. Then we headed out on our skis and did Honka Tie and Sisu. These are intermediate trails but they skied easy because of the conditions. We brought lasagna and salad with us for dinner. We stoked up our wood stove and headed out for a night ski on the illuminated Lake Trail. We used our headlights also, and they came in handy. It was peaceful, calm and silent. We ended up doing two loops out and back. Coming back to our wood stove was really comforting. There's something about the heat from a wood stove. After a good night's sleep, we went out for an early morning walk. There was snow overnight, and it looked like a winter wonderland. We came in for breakfast while the groomer went right by our tupa. We went for a quick ski out to the lake and to vista Vilma, the reindeer. We checked out of our tupa, but we stayed another couple of hours to ski. We did Joki Latu on the west side, then headed back to the east especially to do Era Polku, which was probably my favorite. BTW, you're allowed to do the easy trails at night with your headlights. Era Polku would be awesome for that. The highlight for me was doing Tunturi Loop which is rated most difficult. Again, it skied easier because of the lovely conditions. It was basically a climb up to a lakeside cliff and then a thrilling descent to Lake Trail. Theu have it listed at 1.5km, but it did not seem that long.
God willing, we will return next year for a longer visit.

This was our third stay at a tupa (cottage) in Lapland Lake. It was lovely as usual. The facilities are very comfortable and warm, the staff is very helpful. Ski conditions and trail grooming were excellent. We will be returning again.

I have been skiing at Lapland Lake since it opened 35 years ago. It remains my favorite cross country ski area in the Northeast. First, the trails are top quality and are excellently groomed. They have been laid out with much thought and are excellently adapted to the terrain. Lapland has trails for skiers of all abilities but my favorite is the 10 kilometer outer loop which has rolling terrain, excellent for skating and double-polling, and a series of challenging hills. Furthermore, Olavi is one of the best trail groomers around. Give him an inch of snow and he will make you smile in admiration of his skills. Finally, most of the trails are laid out in beautifully wooded areas that are a joy to ski in and offer protections from the elements when needed.

The facilities at Lapland are also first class. The lodge is spacious, clean, and very well-maintained. My favorite component is lovely changing room with a shower!!!. Many areas seem to assume that offering a bathroom stall to change in after a vigorous workout is sufficient. Lapland knows better and it is just one more example of the thought and care that goes in to making this a special place to ski.

Thank you, Carl, for your very kind and thoughtful comments. 35 years is a good, long time - and we have enjoyed having you with us each and every day you have been here over those 35 years. Many, many more to come!
