Outstanding site for collecting unusually large garnets. Staff is extremely friendly and flexible, and rates are reasonable. Even the locals didn't seem to know about this place, and it offers a fantastic alternative to skiing, which seems to be the predominant attraction in the area.

We made the trip on a whim as we were road tripping for the afternoon and didn't realize we missed the last tour of the day; the girl was very sweet and gave us passes to come back! So we did (and planned it better the 2nd time). Store has lots of garnet products to shop for; I picked up... More

We took our kids to this place and were disappointed. Once you arrive, you buy your passes. Then you wait and are lead down to the mine. A guide gives a 5-8 minute explanation of past mine operation. Then you use pain and sieves to 'mine' for garnet. Their really nothing worth finding. All the pieces are so small their... More

Getting there is half the fun !! A lovely mountain road with lots of scenery (we were there in summer!) Enthusiastic young guides full of knowledge and history. Time to amble and explore.

Don't be turned off by the long drive up the mountain, this place has Garnets-- and lots of them! There are plenty of little Garnets all over the ground, mixed in with some pieces of Quartz, Mika, and (of course) Granite. A fun and unique thing to do for all ages.

This is a small area which is just covered with millions of small pieces of garnet from one to four millimeters in size. It's everywhere, which is rather remarkable. But don't expect to find a big nugget in this picked-over area. Fun to say you did it but not a big thrill. But one admission will last you the whole... More

We did the tour and gift shop. The tour consists of a 5 minute talk on the company history, uses of garnet etc. The material up for collection is all garnet chips that can be found on the ground. No digging necessary. As rockhounds that have garnet hunted in St. Mary's in Idaho this was not what we had in... More

We had folks visiting from California......and ignoring the reviews they really looked forward to seeing a real mine. Well, don't be looking for little carts going into a mine a la The Seven Dwarfs. Keep your sense of humor because you're in for a big joke. No tunnels, no mine, no carts ..........just a couple of relatively shallow pits that... More

I pulled in and apparently the tour had just left, a young kid came out of the gift shop came out and let me know that I could go on up and join the tour and then pay when I returned, but honestly the idea of paying money, spending an hour looking at a hole in the ground and hear... More

My family was looking forward to this trip. They were greatly disappointed when we got there and the "tour guide" played with his phone and provided no assistance or information about the mines. The materials used to collect were either broken or not enough for the tour. The forty five minute mining trip was barely enough time to get started... More
