We recently took the donkey tour down the hill back to the cruise ship. Personally, I would recommend taking the donkey up and the gondola back down. It was a little scary for me. However, another friend I was traveling with did not like being on the donkey at all. It is probably best for younger people to do. I... More

We came to Santorini via our cruise ship and we decided to walk up the cliff to the top, the locals were very pushy trying to sell you the donkey rides up but it was so cruel to the donkeys, they were old, injured and so tired. I spoke with a local who said that about 2 or 3 donkeys... More

On a recent visit to Santorini, we decided to take a volcano island tour. In order to do so, we had to get to the "old port" in Fira. To get to the old port, we had the choice of taking a cable car from the top of the mountain to the bottom, walk down the 580 steps, or ride... More

Absolutely terrible cruelty invested on these lovely animals for our enjoyment. Will never visit the area again unless the authorities stop this barbaric practice.

Hello,me and my girlfriend took this ride in July. After we started descending -we went the way down- she got real scared and was nervous throughout the ride because the donkey she was riding was not very meek....anyway we got to the port safe and sound. The people running the business are quite rude, and I agree with those who argue that there... Touristy experience, but not expensive. Only 5 euros per person. A great way to remember Fira. All of the kids enjoyed it. Better to go uphill, in my humble opinion.

I was a little bit ashamed to do this activity until I learned more about the donkeys and the mules! They are hard workers and need to work even if it's to amuse tourists!

We just recently visited Santorini and found it extremely beautiful but were left disgusted and angry when we encountered the Donkey tours. The Donkeys are expected to climb up approximately 600 steps in blazing heat with no water with heavy tourists jumping on their back treating the situation like it is a joke. I was actually appalled at the people... More

Saw a sign at the bottom of the steps assuring people that the donkeys were well taken care of and had adequate access to water and shade, because of this I decided to take a donkey back down the hill on my return. Never actually completed the journey, upon arriving at the donkey stop at the top of the hill... More

My daughter and I walked down the Caldera at 9:00 am and rode the donkeys up. We were nervous but it was fun and nothing bad happened. I read some earlier reviews about there being cruelty to the donkeys - we did not see anything like that. I think riding down would have been terrifying so if you go, opt... More
